  • Cubism
rdfs:comment
  • Cubism refers to the art form that Pablo Picasso and his associates made very popular. In Cubism, an artist will rearrange the pieces of an object, creating a very distorted and unusual image. Sometimes, pieces of cut-out paper or material may be used, as Picasso often did.
  • Pablo Picasso and Fernand Léger were famous representatives of cubism. In 2366, Jean-Luc Picard painted a picture that was inspired by cubism. Lieutenant Commander Data, who was not too fond of the picture, stated that while "suggesting the free treatment of form usually attributed to Fauvism", the painter "quite inappropriately attempted to juxtapose the disparate cubistic styles of Picasso and Léger. In addition, the use of color suggested a haphazard melange of clashing styles." Furthermore, Data was not happy with "the unsettling overtones of proto-Vulcan influences." (TNG: "A Matter of Perspective" )
  • Cubism was a movement in art which emphasized multiplicity of perspective rather than realism. Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque were pioneers of cubist art. When Indiana Jones found himself in Paris and met the two artists in 1908, he was able to witness — albeit without being fully able to appreciate it — cubism in its infancy.
