- Nueva Esparta started as a small municipality serving the Viceroyalty of Greater Spain. Even before it joined cyber nations to become an independent nation. Es el único estado insular y el de menor superficie de la nación. thumb|100px|Bandera del estado Nueva Esparta El estado se origina a partir de la provincia de Margarita, la cual proclamó su independencia el 4 de mayo de 1810 en un movimiento liderado por Juan Bautista Arismendi; aquel día Margarita se unió al movimiento independentista que fue proclamado en Caracas el 19 de abril de ese mismo año. La provincia se transforma en el estado de Nueva Esparta el 1864. En 1905, el presidente Cipriano Castro dispuso la separación de la isla de Coches del estado para unirla al Territorio Federal Colón. La medida se revirtió en 1908. En tanto, se le añadió la isla de Cubagua en 1947. thumb|Escudo de armas del estado Nueva Esparta El estado posee gran cantidad de monumentos históricos, como la iglesia de Santa Ana, donde fue declarada la Tercera República de Venezuela. Aquí también nacieron Luis Beltrán Prieto Figueroa, Santiago Mariño y otros grandes personajes de la historia regional y nacional. Nueva Esparta está dividida en los municipios autónomos Antolín del Campo, Arismendi, Antonio Díaz, García, Gómez, Maneiro, Marcano, Mariño, península de Macanao, Tubores y Villalba. Las poblaciones más importantes del estado son: la capital del estado La Asunción, Porlamar (capital comercial), Juan Griego, Punta de Piedras, Pampatar, Parroquia San Juan Bautista, Las Guevaras, Las Hernández, Villa Rosa, Bella Vista, El Valle del Espíritu Santo, entre otras.
