The Vhnori believed that they would be reunited with their loved ones in the Next Emanation, and Ptera was looking forward to seeing her brother.

Ptera asked to be sent back even if it meant her death. When Voyager tried to beam her back in another vacuole, it did not work, and she died again. Als sie erfährt, dass sie von den Toten zurückgeholt worden ist, bricht für die junge Frau eine Welt zusammen. Ihr ganzer Glauben und ihre Lebensinhalte sind darauf aufgebaut gewesen, eines Tages nach ihrem Tode mit ihrem Bruder und ihrer restlichen Familie vereint zu werden. Nun muss sie sich damit auseinandersetzten, dass dies alles nicht der Wahrheit entspricht. Die verängstigte und verwirrte junge Frau will nichts anderes als nach Hause zurückzukehren. Bei dem Versuch Ptera zurück in ihre Heimat zu schicken kommt sie ums Leben. Die Voyager bringt ihren Leichnam zurück auf den Planeten.
