| abstract | - Las Normas Específicas de Circulación (NEC) tienen por objeto regular la circulación en la Línea de Alta Velocidad Madrid-Sevilla y nacieron ligadas a ella, como consecuencia de la existencia de una tecnología diferente en cuanto a sus instalaciones y a las particularidades específicas de su explotación, respecto al resto de la red ferroviaria española gestionada por RENFE. Las características más relevantes de esas particularidades eran, en el momento de su promulgación, el diferente ancho de vía, la circulación de velocidades superiores a 200 km/h y hasta 300 km/h, la utilización de unidades de tren indeformables de gran potencia de la Serie 100, la alimentación de la catenaria por medio de corriente alterna a 25 kV 50 Hz CA, la instalación de Bloqueo de Control Automático (BCA) como sistema normal de bloqueo de la línea y de Bloqueo Automático Supletorio (BAS) basado en un sistema específico de señalización como método de respaldo. Con el tiempo, la extensión de la red de alta velocidad a Barcelona hizo necesaria la creación de un nuevo juego de normas para regular la explotación de las nuevas lineas, las Prescripciones Técnicas y Operativas (PTO). Se prevé que éstas terminen sustituyendo a las NEC también en la LAV Madrid-Sevilla.
