However, much to D's dismay, Chiyo slowly began to fall for Nagato, and before long, the two stopped their constant fighting so as not to drag her into their bitter conflicts. Nagato went on to marry Chiyo, though D happily attended their wedding. Only a few years after the ceremony, the Samurai–Shinobi Civil War broke out between the remaining samurai, aiming to keep their way of life, and the rising bud of the shinobi, who were beginning to take root all over the Land of Mountains, thanks to Yamagakure's influence.

  • A D's power manifests for the first time during the development of the secondary sex characteristics and disappears completely around the age of twenty or if the D becomes pregnant, in which case their powers gradually disappear over the course of three months. According to Vritra, this occurs because once their bodies mature, they can no longer synchronize with Counterdragons, since the purpose of the Ds' power is to evolve their bodies into those of Counterdragons. Almost all known Ds are females, with the sole exception of Yuu Mononobe, the world's only male D. A unique characteristic of Ds is the existence of the dragon mark, a symbol that is engraved on some part of their bodies and resembles a dragon. The size of the dragon mark indicates how much dark matter a D can generate and changes color when a Counterdragon has targeted a specific D. If a D, whose dragon mark has fully changed, makes contact with the Counterdragon who targeted her, then she will change into a Counterdragon of the same type, as was the case with Miyako Shinomiya. According to Vritra, the creation of Ds was part of her plan to have the human race evolve into an existence similar to Counterdragons by having the first generation Ds breed with Counterdragons until the third generation is born, which will be able to pass on its powers even when mating with ordinary humans. Vritra's objective had been to strengthen life on Gaia in preparation for the arrival of the Ninth True Dragon, who has the power to destroy the world.

  • The first known presence of a symbol similar to "D" was in the hieroglyphics of Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamen's tomb. This is thought to be a joke at the expense of the late ruler, as it is inferred that the glyph (O31) translates roughly to "dumbass." Oddly enough, this symbol was not found on the Rosetta Stone, and was instead translated by an explicit cave drawing found near the original writing. It was later discovered by God as to be the perfect shape for those ruddy mobile phone chargers that you can't find at the right moment. Meddling kids. Through the passage of time, the Jews stole the letter from the Egyptians while looting the pyramids for money. The Semites took it to the Mediterranean coast, where for thousands of years it fermented in its inappropriateness. Somehow, it managed to evolve into a symbol for "fish." No one quite understands how this happened, which most agree is an anomaly the likes of which no one has seen since. After a while, the Semites wised up and stopped using such archaic symbolism for written communication. When they invented the Phoenician alphabet, they decided to change the symbol for D yet again. The new grapheme, a triangle shaped triangle, was used for thousands of years in the alphabet before it was changed. However, the Etruscans soon decided to pervert it to their end. The geometric simplicity was replaced with an ugly symbol, which by today's standards would be considered a backwards D. Referred to by historians as "a retarded version of Pi," it was at this time that D gained its reputation of mediocrity. This was further cemented by the fact that the letter D was never used in the Etruscan alphabet and was only kept because the linguists were pack-rats. Apparently, however, the Greeks never got the memo, because when they brutally ran down the Etruscans, they reverted back to the old Jewish way. Some say this was the metaphorical inspiration for Kaballah, but they are largely ignored as clinically insane. Mental stability of conspiracy theorists notwithstanding, the Greek triangle, called the Delta, lives on to this day in mathematics. However, in the alphabet, the Romans beat them yet again. They decided to hark back to the Etruscans, and in a startling turn of dyslexia, turned that D backwards. This resulted in what we currently know as the letter D.

  • Their rivalry grew more intense once both men realize that they were both in love with the same woman; Chiyo, whom they had grown up in Edo with, and whom had come to accept them both as her closest friends. Nagato, Chiyo, and D were sent to the frontlines, only for them to become separated during the fighting. D arrived in time to back Nagato up, however, he failed to miss a stray explosive tag, attached to a kunai, and Nagato threw himself in the way to protect him. The resulting explosion fatally wounded Nagato, and, as he died, he asked D to protect Chiyo and his son for him, as well as to always remain loyal to the village. Secretly, however, D took a sample of Nagato's DNA, somehow incorporating it into himself, in the hopes of preserving his comrade's former prowess with the Scorch Release.

  • Powers and Abilities: Left hand can absorb the four cardinal elements of Fire (all forms of heat), Water (any liquid, including blood and urine), Air, and Earth to grant D more power or revive him when his life is extinguished. Left hand has absorbed of note: a hundred billion volt pillar of lightning, the energy from a detonating nuke, energy straight from the heart of an anti-matter reactor, and a particle beam from a space cannon that burned through half the asteroid belt with enough power to punch through a planet two to three times Earth's size. In the 6th novel, it absorbed hurricane force winds capable of blowing D away. He can also invade the minds of those it touches, drawing forth knowledge, or anything else it desires. Left hand once drained a lake of water to revive D after he was staked in the heart, and removed that weakness. Lefty can also generate gale force winds, blast of heat/water, and freeze objects in blocks of ice . Left Hand can also devour souls or Phantoms, like Carmilla in Bloodlust. It's more likely than not its stomach is a pocket dimension.

  • D is known for doing weird things, that many would describe as "dumb". He is also known for teaming up with X to make weird faces. D is weird, but we aren't sure why. Maybe we should ask Albert Einstein. Or maybe Homer Simpson. We need more smart people like them. Did you know that the Earth does not have many smart people left? For every smart person in our little UnWorld, there are 372395 dumb people. The only exception is Chuck Norris. Everyone he talks to is super-smart until he walks away. Of course, if you see Chuck Norris, you are likely to die within the next few seconds, so this doesn't matter. It is believed Chuck Norris kills people with either a Weegee stare, or an Epic Blast. We just know that seeing his is a bad thing. And don't go looking for him, because you won't find him. He'll find you, and kill you, and then he'll kill your corpse. Corpses are actually... wow, we really got off topic there, didn't we? Anyways, D is a letter.
