  • right|thumb|200px|Hupyrian Raza Humanoide, de gran altura. Son extremadamente reservados, y requeridos por los Ferengi de altas categorías como sirvientes por su lealtad y gran dedicación.
  • For centuries, conflict was rife among Hupyrians and they became known for their guerilla warfare tactics. During the reign of Grand Nagus Oblat, the Hupyrian People's Unity Front attempted to seize Oblat's duridium mines as part of their planned liberation of the Hupyrian civilization from the Ferengi. Disturbed he would lose his lucrative mines, Oblat formed the Ferengi/Hupyrian Friendship Brigade. Few Ferengi joined the FHFB until Oblat announced that every recruit would receive a free can of the recently discovered Hupyrian beetle snuff every week. The numbers of FHFB members swelled and the Hupyrian insurrection was halted with high Hupyrian casualties a result. (DS9 reference: Legends of the Ferengi)
  • The Hupyrians were a humanoid species native to either the Alpha or Beta Quadrant. They had tight skin with a slightly scowling expression. The males were quite tall, often well over 2 meters tall, dwarfing their Ferengi employers, and even most other Alpha Quadrant species. They were especially popular with the Ferengi Grand Nagi, who used them as servants, food tasters, and bodyguards due to their strong devotion of service. So strong was their devotion, Hupyrian servants took a unique vow of silence which permitted them to only speak to their master, and for one to not show up to the funeral of their master was considered extremely unusual. (DS9: "The Nagus", "Prophet Motive", "Profit and Lace")

The numbers of FHFB members swelled and the Hupyrian insurrection was halted with high Hupyrian casualties a result. (DS9 reference: Legends of the Ferengi) Several Hupyrians became servants to influential Ferengi and became well regarded for their devotion to their masters. Hupyrians also take a vow that they will only speak to their masters. Maihar'du was Grand Nagus Zek's servant. Brunt had a Hupyrian servant named Uri'lash. (DS9 episodes: "The Nagus", "Prophet Motive", "Profit and Lace") In 2376, when Julian Bashir was treating a Hupyrian with a laceration to the scalp he detected a genetic disorder in the species, similar to Human arthritis. He considered a cure for the ailment for some time after, concluding inserting altered nucleonic material into the Hupyrian's pituitary-like gland might be the answer. (DS9 novel: Avatar, Book One)

(DS9: "The Nagus", "Prophet Motive", "Profit and Lace") Hupyrians were famous for their beetle snuff, the favored drug of Grand Nagus Zek and many other Ferengi. (DS9: "Rules of Acquisition") It seems likely that Hupyrian/Ferengi First Contact took place prior to 2151, as Ulis offered beetle snuff to Krem in this year, suggesting trade had taken place. Since all Hupyrians seen were in service of a Ferengi, it is possible that their species were part of the Ferengi Alliance. Legends of the Ferengi by Ira Steven Behr and Robert Hewitt Wolfe mentions a conflict between the Ferengi and the Hupyrians. According to Star Trek: Star Charts ("United Federation of Planets") and Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library ("Federation Historical Highlights, 2161-2385"), there was a star system named Hupyria (Tau Coronae Borealis), which might possibly be the system of origin for this species, in the Alpha Quadrant. This was a binary system with a a pair of K-class stars.
