He played junior and senior hockey in Northern Ontario with the Sudbury Cub Wolves, Sudbury Wolves, and the North Bay Trappers from 1920 to 1924. Horne played the 1924-25 season with the Grimsby Peach Kings. The Montreal Maroons signed him as a free agent in 1925. He played in 1925-26 and two games in 1926-27. After playing the 1926-27 and 1927-28 seasons in the minor pros, Horne joined the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1928-29. In 54 career NHL games, he scored nine goals and assisted on three for twelve points. He won a Stanley Cup with the Maroons in 1926. George's name was left off the Stanley Cup, because he did not play in the playoffs. Horne died in the off-season in 1929 when he drowned while on a canoe with some friends.
