abstract
  • Daniel Davies was born in Knebworth, England, in 1980, the first of two children born to Dave Davies, of the band The Kinks. His surname is of German origin; his great-great-grandparents on his father's side emigrated to the United States from Germany. Davies was always an adventurous child, and as such- looked forward to the prospect of getting away from home. Shortly after his 8th grade graduation, he escaped to a steamer ship crossing the Atlantic and made his way to Hollywood, CA. There, he called up his stepfather John Carpenter. After moving in with the director, Davies enrolled himself at Hollywood High School and quickly gravitated towards riding BMX bikes in his spare time. He ended high school after sophomore year and got a job in the copper mines with the Anaconda Mining Company as a diamond drill operator . He was then promoted to surface duty where he drove a large earth mover. Davies was dismissed when he made the earth mover do a motorcycle-type wheelie and drove it into Los Angeles' main power line. The incident left the city without electricity for several hours. Idle, Davies began to find himself in more and more trouble around Los Angeles. After a police chase in 1992 in which he crashed his motorcycle, Davies was taken to jail on a charge of reckless driving. Always looking for new thrills and challenges, Davies participated in local professional rodeos and ski-jumping events, including winning the Northern Rocky Mountain Ski Association Class A Men's ski jumping championship in 1993. During the mid 1990s, Davies joined the United States Army. His athletic ability allowed him to join the track team where he was a pole vaulter. Shortly after getting returning, Davies (may have) left Los Angeles to join the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. Davies was successful as an illusionist and promoter for the Golden Dawn and wanted recognition for his efforts. When the group refused to promote him to Adeptus Minorus after a few months with them, he quit. Wanting a new start away from their headquarters in the Eastern U.S., Davies moved back to Los Angeles, California. There, with monies that his father and step-father had given him, he opened a Honda motorcycle dealership and promoted motocross racing. During the early 2000s, it was difficult to promote Japanese imports. People still considered them inferior to American built motorcycles, and there was lingering resentment from World War II, which had ended fewer than 70 years earlier. Once, Davies offered a $100 discount to anybody who could beat him at arm wrestling. Despite his best efforts the store eventually closed. After the closure of the Los Angeles Honda dealership, Daniel went to work for Don Pomeroy at his motorcycle shop in Sunnyside, Washington. It is here where Jim Pomeroy, a well known motocross racer taught Davies how to do a "wheelie" and ride while standing on the seat of the bike.
