  • The TIE Hunter was an Imperial fighter piloted originally by Imperial pilots. The ship is mainly a cross between a Rebel X-wing and a TIE Interceptor. The TIE Hunter is faster and deadlier than any other TIE ship. The TIE Hunter is equipped with blasters, lock-on Proton Torpedoes, and two Ion cannons.
  • The Twin ion engine Hunter was an Imperial starfighter which had a wing configuration was roughly the reverse of a TIE/IN interceptor. Similar to the T-65 X-wing starfighter, the TIE Hunter possessed S-foils, which meant that they would open in attack mode and close in normal flight. This was largely because the TIE Hunters were created by the Galactic Empire specifically as a means to counter the T-65 X-wing starfighter. Unlike most other contemporary TIEs of the time, TIE Hunters were equipped with a hyperdrive and shields, making them more valuable than most starfighters the Empire utilized. Because of these characteristics, it was also considered to be the fastest TIE variant among the Imperial fleet.[2] When the S-foils were closed, the craft could not fire its weapons.[3]
  • The TIE Hunter is a starfighter from the used near-exclusively by the Galactic Empire's storm commandos, and as a result it is rarely seen. Oremin is also known to use these fighters for many of the same reasons as the storm commandos, as well as the fact that it doesn't have the same bias as the Imperial Navy. The craft is produced in limited quantities and performs relatively well, but as a result of internal debates within Naval Command for and against using weapons improved with the enemy's designs, the TIE Hunter doesn't see use outside of the storm commandos.

Because of these characteristics, it was also considered to be the fastest TIE variant among the Imperial fleet.[2] When the S-foils were closed, the craft could not fire its weapons.[3] TIE Hunters were piloted by one individual. They were equipped with a weapon load-out identical to that of the BTL Y-wing starfighter; two laser cannons, two ion cannons, and a proton torpedo launcher with twelve proton torpedos.[3] The craft carried a Class 1 hyperdrive, 2 days worth of supplies, and cost 100,000 credits.[1] They also were waterproof, being capable of being submerged in resevoirs for a week and lift off with no worse for wear.
When the S-Foils of the TIE Hunter are locked in attack position, the fighter's top speed is 115 MGLT, but the fighter's closed wing configuration redirects all energy intended for the energy cannons. No weapons can be fired while the wings are in closed position since all available energy is transferred to the craft's advanced twin ion engines, thereby increasing the fighters max speed to 135 MGLT. The torpedo load, coupled with high speed, makes it an effective assault fighter.
