  • Pollutant is a material in Atelier Meruru: The Apprentice of Arland. It is one of few item options available in the "poison" category while synthesizing. It can be found mostly in the Luminous Cave near Trombe Plateau. It can also be purchased from Astrid's shop in Arls. Pollutant is required to make Dark Water and Liquid Solvent.
  • A pollutant is a substance or energy introduced into the environment that has undesired effects, or adversely affects the usefulness of a resource. A pollutant may cause long- or short-term damage by changing the growth rate of plant or animal species, or by interfering with human amenities, comfort, health, or property values. Some pollutants are biodegradable and therefore will not persist in the environment in the long term. However the degradation products of some pollutants are themselves polluting such as the products DDE and DDD produced from degradation of DDT.
  • The most common pollutants in the air are: * Carbon monoxide - from the incomplete combustion of carbon-containing compounds. * Sulphur dioxide - from the combustion of sulphur-containing fossil fuels * Oxides of nitrogen (e.g. nitrogen dioxide) - from car exhausts * Lead compounds - from car exhausts These are harmful for buildings (acid rain - see Sulphur dioxide) and health (see asthma). For example, NOx account for the smog in inner city areas.
