  • The Bucyrus-Erie BE 1150B dragline has been saved from the cutting torch following completion of coal extraction at the site and is parked up nearby. The Machine was saved by the "Friends of St.Aidans" group, who hold regular open days during the year to allow the public to visit & raise funds for its restoration. This is the Largest Dragline in Europe in preservation, but unfortunately is not working due to a lack of a suitable power source (huge cost) and theft of some parts when it was first parked up by British Coal the owner. Oddball was moved to its present position following closure of the site opencast site and restoration work using a Large generator to supply temporary power. The move of just 49 m was carried out in January 1999 after the machine had stood idle for 10 years.
  • "Odd Ball" is the second segment of the 37th episode of The Fairly OddParents.
  • Odd Ball was a living rubber ball from the planet Bounco(!) which was accidentally booted into space during a football game and hurtled through Earth's solar system before colliding with a satellite and falling to Earth straight into the middle of another football game. Odd Ball, who could float in the air, speak (though he rarely did so) and change into any shape he wanted, and who apparently ate grass, was subsequently adopted by young West Ham fan Nobby Noodle, and stayed with him from then on, helping him out against bullies and generally just having fun. Odd Ball eventually learned to travel through time, too!
  • At Teth, Odd Ball, and his fellow pilots are sent to recuse Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano, and Captain Rex from the B'omarr monastery. In the furious fight, a vulture droid scores a hit on Odd Ball's fighter. To his embarrassment, he panics - and needs Obi-Wan to make a quick rescue. Odd Ball fought at Umbara and joined the hunt for the escaped Padawan Ahsoka Tano on Coruscant.

During the final battles of the Clone Wars, Odd Ball participated in the Battle of Coruscant where he and his pilots assisted Obi-Wan Kenobi. Odd Ball was engaged in battle above Utapau when Supreme Chancellor Palpatine issued Order 66, directing all clone forces to turn their weapons on their Jedi Generals.

The Odd Ball strip first appeared in Whizzer and Chips #1 on 24th October 1969, and was mostly drawn by Terry Bave, although other artists including Kevin O'Neill are believed to have occasionally filled in. The strip survived the cancellation of Whizzer and Chips and ended its life in the pages of Buster. File:Oddball.jpg
