  • No one has killed this creature yet!
  • From Latin mater (meaning mother) + -arch.
  • Matriarch was the name which Hobbits gave to women of importance in the family which was usually their grandmother. Sméagol and Déagol lived under a Matriarch in a community of Stoorish hobbits living near the Gladden Fields.
  • A matriarch was the leader of any specifically female-ruled culture. The most prominent example of this was on Dathomir, where Zalem was matriarch for a time. Also, on Saheelindeel there was a matriarch ruler during Han Solo's visit, in 1 BBY. On Honoghr, the planet of the Noghri, each clan had a matriarch, called Maitrakh. This person was the storyteller, leader, and lore keeper of the clan.
  • The Matriarch of a Kencyr House is in charge of the Women's World of that House. She ranks below the Lord of the House, but has a fair degree of autonomy and respect. In some Houses, such as the Randir, the Matriarch is the true power; in others, such as the Brandan, the Lord and Matriarch are very close. The Ardeth Matriarch Adiraina has claimed that all Matriarchs and Lords must necessarily be Shanir.
  • Special Part(s): Matriarch is a Common class mod for the Siren manufactured by Pangolin. The Matriarch is obtained randomly from any suitable loot source.
  • Matriarch or Wise Mother, is the title of the female lyrinx who rules over a city or clan. The matriarchs of the major lyrinx cities ruled collectively over the lyrinx population during the Lyrinx War. Matriarch Gyrull was pre-eminent among the matriarchs to act as a supreme leader in times of crisis. When the lyrix took Tallallame as their home, Liett ruled as matriarch whilst her husband Ryll ruled with her as patriarch.
  • A Matriarch is significant female within a family or group, sometimes taking a leadership role or holding some cultural significance within the group. The Last-of-all-Cities colony was led by Matriarch T'Kell. (EV comic: "Cloak and Dagger") The Ilaiyenai of planet Sigma Niobe II were led by Matriarch Damala. Most other Niobean cultures were also matriarchal. (TOS short story: "As Others See Us")
  • Matriarch is an enemy encountered in the Emperor's Mausoleum. Though a sub-boss, her HP are lower than that of the area's regular enemies, Lizard Underlings, and she can be instantly killed by casting any tier-2 ice-based magic on her. Save the Queen will call for two Lizard Underlings to join the fight. This lizard woman was perhaps Khan empress or mistress during the days of The Empire, then being buried with him. The most likely origin would be that she is another Dragonite, reflected in her origin, who became Khan's bride. However, the fact that she survived till the day Khan awoke indicates that either she was in Stasis with him, or in fact not be his misstress at all but rather a being that came into existence much later due to warping effects of the mausoleum (see Devolving Humanoid

Most other Niobean cultures were also matriarchal. (TOS short story: "As Others See Us") In the Pa'haquel species, the wife of the Clan elder served as Clan matriarch. If the Elder was unmarried, the position fell to the most senior female member of the Clan Elder's line. In 2380, the matriarch of Clan Qui'Tir'leg was Qui'chiri. The duties of the matriarch included preparing newly killed star-jellies for habitation. Deanna Troi told Qui'chiri that she considered the position of first officer to be comparable to that of matriarch. (TTN novel: Orion's Hounds)
