Accompanied by a pair of Federation construction ships and two Venture-class scouts, the USS Vizier and the USS Kingston, the Inverness was to establish a base and await the rendezvous with the USS Enterprise-E. The base soon came under attack by the Borg, who had established a nexus and further installations beyond the nearby asteroid belt.
