Due to her illness, her life-span costs a lot, causing her to pass away in a young age. Despite this, she has some wishes that have not fulfilled yet, leading her soul to wander the human world. With the help of the Diary of Dream that Nozomi wrote when she was still alive, Sakura calls Ataru to come and have a date with her.
  • Nozomi was an intelligent nezumi. She and two other pups were orphaned while they were on some abandoned farmland. A magistrate who was seeking Scorpion ronin stumbled upon the three infants. The magistrate attacked them with his yari, seeing them only as vermin. He was beheaded by his own yoriki, a ronin member of the Sword of Yotsu who cared for the helpless. The ronin took her and escaped. A bounty was placed over the head of the ronin, who named her Nozomi, and she in turn called him A'op'chtch-tchr, "father's stick".

  • Nozomi is a friend of Yuka's, who met her in high school where Yuka served as Senpai to the nervous Nozomi's Kohai. While possessing a beautiful singing voice, her family, most especially her father, forbid her from using it to pursue a career. Her father's efforts even reach abusive extremes. Both Nozomi and her mother possess the Dramatic Soprano (called "Soprano Dramatico" in-series) voice type, which is said to be uncommon for Japanese people. Nozomi's mother committed suicide after her voice was ruined, presumably by her oversinging and putting constant stress on her vocal chords. Nozomi's father sought to stop her interest in opera, thus keeping her from suffering the same fate as her mother, through this abuse, which was often physical in the form of severe spanking. The childhood trauma from her father's abuse lead to her wetting herself whenever she becomes too nervous, and therefore wearing a diaper for her overactive bladder, even up to the time she is invited by a now college-age Yuka to practice at Maple House. This offer, in turn, leads to several awkward encounters with Kouta, whom she develops a secret crush on, and Nyu, who gropes and nearly sexually assaults her (along with everyone else she gropes). Kouta discourages her from thinking herself a coward, and the 'family' of Maple House delights in her singing, bringing her joy as well, and slowly increasing her confidence. Liking the people and atmosphere of Maple House, Nozomi often chose to stay there instead of at her father's home. Presumably, it is the knowledge that Nozomi is staying with her responsible Senpai that allows her controlling father to permit this. It is Nozomi who teaches Nyu how to sing the song Elfenlied. Sometime after the events involving Mariko, Nozomi moved into Maple House on a full-time basis, at last, having reconciled her father to the dream she refused to give up.

However, she was constantly bullied in the academy for being a so called "Tenrai" though at the time she had no idea what the meant. When she asked Hon to explain, he was hesitant to go into details, saying that they were just a group/clan that had lived in Takigakure, then left. Meanwhile, she continued to excel in the academy, graduating at the age of 8 and becoming a chunin at the age of 11. However, it was on a mission that she learned of the true nature of the Tenrai, and that she in fact was one. However, when she went back to demand answers from Hon about the Tenrai as a clan, she found him dead in a corner with a arrow sticking out of his neck. On the arrow was a message for her that said to meet at the gates at 11pm. There in the moonlight of night, she found her answers that she had so desperately been waiting for, and she learned that her clan had been massacred by the Taki shinobi for the sake of attaining the secrets of her clan, and that they planned on coming after her, "the only survivor" next. The mysterious people then promised her that if she was able to do well and attain the rank of leader (in order to gain the hero water), that she would be able to have revenge upon the people that destroyed her clan. She then went back to the bookkeeping shop that find Hon alive, to later discover her kekkei tota, Soul Release.
