  • Smoke is a character who appears in the cartoon crossover special "Cartoon All-Stars To The Rescue". He is an evil influence who hangs around with Michael, a teenager who is the main character of the story, who got involved in the use of drugs two years prior to the story's present day by smoking a marijuana cigarette. Smoke acts like he cares for those whom he gets to do drugs, but ends up caring mostly for himself whenever his victims end up in some sort of trouble, legal or health-wise. The character is voiced by George C. Scott.
  • Smoke debuted in Mortal Kombat II as a hidden character to fight against. He was often spotted in the Living Forest stage in which he (along with Jade) peeked out of the trees. Like Reptile when he made his first appearance, he was simply a palette-swap of Scorpion with puffs of smoke surrounding him, but would move extremely fast. He would appear randomly before matches, offering clues that would enable the player to fight him, as Reptile had in the original Mortal Kombat.
  • Smoke is the central antagonist of the educational cartoon special/crossover known as "Cartoon All-Stars To The Rescue," which has become a somewhat infamous example of anti-drug propaganda and had a host of many characters from varied children's media band together in order to try and stop Michael, the main protagonist, and his use of drugs, which is slowly tearing his life apart.

  • Smoke and I became . . . more than friends. She loved to hear my stories of Clan life; she couldn’t get enough of them. She was happy to be my mate, but of course I only ever saw her in the Twolegplace. There was no way I could have brought her into camp. […] Everything was fine, until I found out that Smoke was expecting kits She came to find me on the moor. Thank StarClan that I was out hunting alone, and I came across her not too far from the border of our territory! Smoke was almost ready to give birth. She told me that she wanted to join WindClan, so that her kits could be brought up as warriors. You see, I’d told her such wonderful tales of Clan life, as if it was all adventure and massive piles of prey. I had not mentioned all the times we nearly starved to death in a harsh leaf-bare, or how often we might get terrorized by dogs or Twolegs . . . or how heart-breaking it was to lose a Clanmate.

Just an ordinary warrior, not the heroic cat I had made myself out to be. And anyway, Smoke was so soft and delicate…. She would never have survived a moon out on the moor.

  • Yes, Smoke came to find me one more time. She had a single kit with her, and she told me that after our last meeting, when she was still on her way home, her kits had come. She didn’t have any help – not from a cat, not even from a Twoleg. All but one of her kits – our kits – had died. Smoke went back to her Twolegs, but only for a short time. As soon as her kit was old enough to leave her, she brought him back to me. She begged me to at least take him into camp, while he was still young enough to learn the ways of the Clans. And I . . . I refused. I was too worried about how I would have to explain to Tallstar. Smoke turned on me then. She told me that she would raise the kit by herself, and teach him to hate the Clans who had rejected him.

Through Smoke's influence on his life, Michael steals money from his sister Corey's piggy bank in order to get money for buying crack that was being distributed at the local video arcade. However, during the course of the story, he meets various cartoon characters, including the Smurfs, who try to convince him that doing drugs is wrong and can affect his health, all the while Smoke tries to convince Michael that doing drugs is the right thing to do. Michael isn't convinced by what the cartoon characters are telling him until he sees that Smoke is now going after Corey to get her to do the same drugs, and afterwards renounces having anything to do with Smoke or the use of drugs. Smoke is last then riding off in the back of a garbage truck that he was thrown into by Michael, saying that it won't be the last that Michael has seen of him. The character is voiced by George C. Scott.

  • In the mid-1820s, during the height of American Western expansion, there existed a small Oklahoma town called Stadtlern. The town, like many others around it, was still developing, and thus had a great lack of food. Death by starvation was very common, and the citizens did whatever they could to procure food for themselves and their families. Quite a few instances of cannibalism took place, as well as periods of mass theft. For a long time, the town was on the verge of total desolation. The death toll of the incident was estimated to be at least three thousand. Stadtlern, having a population of zero, was removed from the map by the U.S. Government, out of fear that someone might be able to find remaining seeds of the plant and use it for acts of terrorism. However, they say that if you ever do visit the town, you can still smell traces of the smoke, a smell as putrid as decaying corpses.

Smoke would not have his own storyline until he was featured in Mortal Kombat 3, where he was once again a hidden character, but accessible to players with the use of a code. In this appearance, he would be a tortured, human soul trapped in the body of a cyborg. His most defining feature is the fact that he constantly seems to emit a smoke or vapor. This, combined with his power to teleport and turn invisible, once made him one of the Lin Kuei's top assassins. In Mortal Kombat (2011), its revealed that he has long, flowing, ghostly white hair, which, while blown back in renders and artwork, covers his face in game.

However Smoke is intent on making the main protagonist a drug-addicted wash-out and malcontent, he may well be an evil ghost or demon or even an embodiment of drug abuse itself (he is definitely not human and seems to be obsessed with spreading evil, further suggesting a demonic origin). Smoke is eventually defeated (by Michael refusing to listen to him any longer and throwing him into a garbage truck) but vows to return someday, whether or not he will is unknown and like many villains from crossover events he is considered a "one-shot" encounter and will likely not be seen again unless they ever make a sequel (which seems rather unlikely).

  • Smoke is a collection of airborne solid and liquid particulates and gases emitted when a material undergoes combustion or pyrolysis, together with the quantity of air that is entrained or otherwise mixed into the mass. It is commonly an unwanted by-product of fires (including stoves, candles, oil lamps, and fireplaces), but may also be used for pest control (fumigation), communication (smoke signals), defensive and offensive capabilities in the military (smoke-screen), cooking, or smoking (tobacco, cannabis, etc.). Smoke is used in rituals where incense, sage, or resin is burned to produce a smell for spiritual purposes. Smoke is sometimes used as a flavoring agent, and preservative for various foodstuffs. Smoke is also a component of internal combustion engine exhaust gas, particularly diesel exhaust. Smoke inhalation is the primary cause of death in victims of indoor fires. The smoke kills by a combination of thermal damage, poisoning and pulmonary irritation caused by carbon monoxide, hydrogen cyanide and other combustion products. Smoke particles are an aerosol (or mist) of solid particles and liquid droplets that are close to the ideal range of sizes for Mie scattering of visible light. This effect has been likened to three-dimensional textured privacy glass — a smoke cloud does not obstruct an image, but thoroughly scrambles it.
