abstract | - The National Broadband Map (NBM) is a tool to search, analyze and map broadband availability across the United States. Launched in 2011, the NBM is a joint effort of NTIA and FCC to report broadband speeds and technology available across the United States. According to NTIA and FCC, the map represents the most comprehensive nationwide data on broadband availability. The NBM displays data collected semiannually by NTIA's State Broadband Initiative ("SBI") in collaboration with the Federal Communications Commission ("FCC") and 56 state and territorial partners. The NBM database provides a snapshot of the United States on a very granular (Census block) level, yielding substantial geographic data relating to broadband availability. Data available from the map include each company providing broadband service to a Census block, the technology used to provide each service, and the maximum advertised speed of the service (both download and upload). The NBM currently includes over 125 million records.
