Biography
  • Lowell Cowell was a NASCAR driver from Morganton, WV. He competed in ten Sprint Cup Series events in his career. Cowell's debut came in 1981, when he competed at Dover for car owner Roger Hamby. It was a rough day for Cowell, who only completed eleven laps before retiring to 28th. Still, Hamby had Cowell in his car three other occasions during the year. Cowell did slightly improve as the year wore on, recording a respectable 17th place run at Texas World and showing 22nd in his return to Dover. Cowell and Hamby stepped it up to a five-race schedule during the 1982 season, allowing Cowell to post a career-high 39th place finish in the final points. Cowell made vast strides over the previous season, running at the finish of every race he started that year and recording some top-twenties despite mediocre equipment. He set a career-best 13th place finish in the Daytona July classic, finished 14th in the February Daytona 500 and also finished 18th at Talladega in July. He also was 21st at Talladega in April and 21st at Pocono, recording good finishes at NASCAR's toughest superspeedways. Cowell and Hamby split, though, for the 1983 season. Cowell, as a result, made his final start that year at Talladega, driving for Mike Potter's team. It was a rough ending for the driver, blowing his engine just past the halfway point and finishing 26th. External Links *Stats
