- Machu Picchu is a historical site and tourist attraction located in Peru. The Simpson family visit the site looking for Bart after he attaches a tracking device from his cell phone to a bird and the bird flies to Machu Picchu. When they return home, Maggie is accidentally left behind in Machu Picchu and ends up being worshipped as a goddess.
- This place is said to have been abandoned for a very long time. It was made for 700 people but only 250 skeletons were found. They say that it could have been a quarantine site.

In The Treasure of Peg-Leg Wilson #2, Mahna Mahna and the Snowths sing their signature song using Machu Picchu for the words. As promotion for the home video release of Muppets Most Wanted, an image posted to Tumblr and Instagram featured Fozzie Bear at the famous site. The Queen of Nacho Picchu references Machu Picchu, herself dressed in attire resembling Incan civilization.

Sus peculiares características arquitectónicas y paisajísticas y el velo de misterio que ha tejido a su alrededor buena parte de la literatura publicada sobre el sitio, lo han convertido uno de los destinos turísticos más populares del planeta. Machu Picchu está en la Lista del Patrimonio de la humanidad de la UNESCO desde 1983 como parte de todo un conjunto cultural y ecológico conocido bajo el nombre de Santuario Histórico de Machu Picchu.
