  • The following is a chart of all possible personality traits that are available to Mell in Tales of Phantasia: Narikiri Dungeon. The personality of a character is a single word that describes his or her overall attitude and emotions. Each character's personality can be modified primarily through costume usage and through choices that the player makes throughout the game. Basic personalities are shown directly within the game through six gauges that are displayed in the status menu. Three gauges are available to each character at the beginning of the game, and the remaining gauges appear after the completion of various events. Each costume has its own affinity towards one type of basic personality, and every battle will cause its associated gauge to increase, while decreasing all other gauges. Additional personality traits are formed by combining two of the basic personalities together, if they are at relatively equal levels. If the level of one of the basic personality gauges is less than double the level of the other gauge, both personalities combine together as shown on the chart below. For example, if the gauge for Sunao (すなお "Docile"?) is at 60% and the gauge for Ochame (おちゃめ "Talkative"?) is at 40%, Mell's personality becomes Charming (チャーミング?). However, if one personality gauge is more than double the level of the other gauge, the dominant personality will remain unchanged. For example, if the gauge for Sunao is at 80% and the gauge for Ochame is at 20%, Sunao remains as her dominant personality trait. The resulting dominant personality of a character will enable certain costumes to deal more damage during battle.
