She was fond of teaching Reynie Muldoon, as an extra challenge for his extraordinary intelligence. After the adventure in the first book, Miss Perumal adopts Reynie and she becomes his mother (although he calls her Amma, the Tamil word) and Reynie as her adoptive son. His only other family is Mrs. Perumal , her mother. She appears in the second and third book as well but not as a major character.
