  • Fodulaki Mustafa Efe was an efe based in the region north of İzmir during the Greco-Turkish War (1919-1922), especially around Menemen and Yamanlar, and who led a guerilla campaign with his zeybeks against the Greek occupation. His most notable achievement was the elimination in an ambush of the band of Arabacıoğlu Kosti (Kosti çetesi in Turkish) who harried the region from the Sea of Marmara to the Aegean by acts of banditry in a modus vivendi with the Greek army. He ambushed Kosti's band in the vicinity of the village of Harmandalı, north of İzmir, and put an end to their activities by slitting the throats of the band members, all sixty-two of them in a row. Fodulaki Mustafa Efe is reputed to have filled the Greek cemetery in Menemen on his own.
