A 6'2" Guard (basketball), Herren played for the Nuggets and the Boston Celtics during his NBA career. He played collegiately at Boston College and Fresno State under legendary and controversial coach Jerry Tarkanian. Herren was the central figure in a book about Durfee High Basketball entitled Fall River Dreams.

A 6'2" Guard (basketball), Herren played for the Nuggets and the Boston Celtics during his NBA career. He played collegiately at Boston College and Fresno State under legendary and controversial coach Jerry Tarkanian. Herren was the central figure in a book about Durfee High Basketball entitled Fall River Dreams. In December 2004, Herren was charged with possession of Heroin and Driving under the influence with a revoked license in the parking lot of a Dunkin' Donuts in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. On June 4, 2008, police said Herren was found in Fall River unconscious, slumped over the wheel of a car with a hypodermic needle and a bag of heroin on the passenger seat next to him after a minor accident. He was not arrested because he was taken to Charlton Memorial Hospital, in Fall River, however he will be summonsed into Fall River District Court for reckless operation of a motor vehicle, operating under the influence of drugs and possession of heroin.
