  • Battlestaves are combined melee and magical weapons which can be used in combat and in spell casting. Their strongest style of melee attack is crushing, although they also confer defensive bonuses. On top of their melee capabilities, battlestaves allow the wielder to autocast spells and also provide an unlimited supply of runes according to their name (i.e. a Fire battlestaff replaces the need for fire runes when it is equipped). With the exception of the basic battlestaff, battlestaves require level 30 attack and magic to wield. Basic battlestaves have no requirements to wield.
  • With the exception of the dragon battlestaff and the Armadyl battlestaff, battlestaves require level 30 Magic to wield. Basic battlestaves have no requirements to wield; the Armadyl battlestaff, being a more advanced and unique weapon, requires 77 Magic to wield. The Armadyl battlestaff can also be used as an unlimited supply of air runes, whilst also speeding up the Storm of Armadyl cast rate, making it the only staff which can affect the speed at which spells are cast. A dragon battlestaff requires 60 Magic and completion of Birthright of the Dwarves, and is the only battlestaff that does not provide unlimited runes for an element.

The basic version used to be sold by Zaff in Varrock. His apprentice, Naff now sells them in his store, Naff's Knockoff Staves. The supply is increased as players achieve higher levels of Varrock armour. Also, after completing Lunar Diplomacy, a player can buy 20 battlestaves per day from Baba Yaga on Lunar Isle. This is a good way to make money daily, as Naff sells them at 7,000 each, and they can be sold on the Grand Exchange for more. Since 11 April 2012 it is possible to get a strange rock by creating battlestaves. Shade skulls, obtainable from gold chests in the Shades of Mort'ton minigame, may be attached to elemental battlestaves to alter their appearance. The stats of the battlestaff do not change.
