It is a world in which radiation can mutate people into ghouls and portable directed energy weapons are not only viable but also (relatively) widespread. This article aims to highlight the differences between the Fallout world's technology and our own.

  • FISHERIES TECHNOLOGY consists of two major fields: * (1) - Fish Technology, which deals with handling, transporting, processing, and quality study and control of fish and fish products, from the moment of their capture till they are bought by the final customer. * (2)- Fishing Technology, which deals with study, design, production, and testing of fishing gear and methods, and the fishing deck arrangements and machinery on board fishing vessels. During the later decades of the 20th century, it expanded to cover fishery hydro-acoustics and other electronic systems involved with fish capture. (MB-Y)

  • Technology is one of the core concepts of the Hearts of Iron series. The game covers a period of time that saw great changes in the weapons and tactics of the world's militaries. To represent this, as a key part of the grand strategic nature of the game, national leaders must spend resources developing technologies that increase the capabilities of all other areas of their nation.
  • Despite technology developing faster and faster, humanity is still far away from making it past stage 1 on the Kardashev scale. With the ability to control and harvest fusion power even in small spaces, energy recovery and pollution are no longer an issue. Given an affordable and basically infinite energy supply, technology could thrive, and - among other things - large-scale space exploration became possible. For more information on space travel technology, please refer to the page on solar system colonization.

  • Technology seems to be a better thing then the Old Ways. They have supressed the Old Ways, and their laws. Technology has resulted in many weapons, including Ray Guns, Lasers, Assult Rifles, and much more.
  • Technology was a broad concept that dealt with a species' usage and knowledge of tools and crafts, and how it affected that species' ability to control and adapt to its environment. The most technologically advanced people in the Post Diaspora era were the humans, using their understanding of science to travel through space, advance their wisdom and even manipulate their own genome. Other species like Medusans and treecats also made use of technology, though on a much more primitive level. The sole species known to have used technology even superior to that of humans were the Alphanes.

  • Most of the city of Doramraz is driven by steam and clockwork. Although the government has started experimenting with something called "electricity", it is only available in the Zenith (see The Levels of Doramraz). However, mechanisms like the Antikythera Mechanism and difference engines do exist and are being tinkered with by engineers, but they aren't of any interest to the common man and haven't been adapted for practical use yet. No one but their creators is interested in them.

  • What is technology? In simplest terms, it is science applied to practical use. Thus, by this definition, a simple can opener is a technological device. A more accurate description is that technology is the system by which an entire society provides for the wants and needs of its population. Technology tends to improve as the demand for it increases. A society might go decades or even centuries without a major advancement before some bright inventor comes up with something that alters the fundamental way things are done. For example, wagon wheels help move heavy loads from place to place, while wheels of stone grind meal into flour. Put notches in a wheel, connect them together, and you have gears that can drive even more complicated devices. All too frequently, war is the primary driver of
  • In the game technology is represented by a technology level that represents the tools, hardware, and software that help your nation do what it does... better (In particular military). Technology works similar to infrastructure in the game but is much more expensive at a base cost of $10,000 plus a per level increase (You can purchase technology at fractions of levels for less than $10K, but you must have at least $5,000 available). Like infrastructure, technology cost experiences several jumps at key levels. You cannot sell technology as you can land or infrastructure. Also, the price does increase due to supply and demand, but unlike infrastructure, technology does not have a maintenance cost. You can reduce the cost or increase the effectiveness of technology through certain resources an

There are hot wars (manual destructive deployment) & cold wars (manual constructive deployment). E.g.

  • The Saecular technology described in the novel spans a range from somewhat more advanced versions of recognizable 21st century Earth technology (smartphones, GPS devices, computers) to technologies which indicate significant advancement (page trees, fuel trees, vrone oak, library grapes, smartmatter devices such as tires which display photographs, photomnemonic tablets, etc). The novel implies that these are settled technology and that innovation has largely been replaced by simple imitation by Saecular. Isaac Asimov also uses this trope in Second Foundation where his Traders encounter populations on isolated worlds who can use existing technology but who lack the knowledge to repair or reconstruct it.

  • There are a few ways to gain advances from other civilizations: you will sometimes discover enemy technology when you capture a city; you can steal advances with Diplomats and Spies; the Great Library wonder, while it lasts, gives its owner every advance that two other civilizations have reached; and another player might grant technology in the terms of a pact. But otherwise advances must be discovered through the efforts of your own people.
  • Technology is the making, usage, and knowledge of tools, machines, techniques, crafts, systems or methods of organization in order to solve a problem or perform a specific function. It can also refer to the collection of such tools, machinery, and procedures. The word technology comes from Greek τεχνολογία (technología); from τέχνη (téchnē), meaning "art, skill, craft", and -λογία (-logía), meaning "study of-". The term can either be applied generally or to specific areas: examples include construction technology, medical technology, and information technology.
  • The relationship between society and technology is quite complex, creating what many characterize as a co-dependence upon the other; society creates and depends upon technology to meet its needs and desires, and technology's very existence arises due to society's needs and desires. However, this "symbiosis" goes further than that: Every advancement in technology influences and eventually changes society. So the needs of society change, creating more needs, and, eventually, creating more technology. (McGinn 1991)
  • Technology is the method of advancing a player's civilization in the Age of Empires series. Technologies are usually grouped into a few categories: * Unit upgrades - Upgrade (usually military) units. The upgraded unit costs the same as its predecessor, but is stronger, sometimes even significantly.Example: The Camel upgrades to the Heavy Camel (in Age of Empires II). * Unit improvements - Improve unit attributes such as attack strength, HP, armor, or speed.Example: Scale Mail Armor improves infantry armor (in Age of Empires II). * Economy improvements - Improve the player's economy by making their Villagers or Fishing Boats carry more or gather faster.Example: Log Flume increases the wood gathering rate by +20% (in Age of Empires III). * Building upgrades - Upgrade buildings.
  • In NGE AND AAC you pay 5 for a tech roll. On a 6 you receive a random technology. The AAR version tried to make technology less random. You could choose which technology to roll for. Heavy Bombers were downgraded, while Industrial Technology was replaced by Destroyer Bombardment. This allowed an exploit, where the Germans spend all the cash on Long-Range Aircraft research, with a good chance of successfully capturing Britain on the first turn. To prevent this, technology was made effective at the end of the turn. In AA42 technology was removed entirely

If the mutant has no suitable limbs or tentacles to wield the technological weapon (for example, it is some form of quadruped), the strange artefact is bonded to the chest or shoulder. A mutant with an Int greater than 4 may fire the weapon, otherwise the mechanism is set external to the mutant and may be activated by a rider or handler. Roll D100 to determine the type of weapon the mutant is granted. This die roll may be modified if the mutant is a Champion Of Chaos, depending on the Champion's patron Chaos Power. Before rolling on the main weapon table below, roll a D10 and consult the appropriate chart: Champions Of Khorne Champions Of Slaanesh Champions Of Tzeentch Champions of Nurgle and of other Chaos Powers simply roll D100 to determine the weapon type. You may, if you wish, apply the above bonuses to non-Champion mutants who follow these Chaos Powers, especially to Daemons that receive this attribute. Force swords and force rods use magic points in place of psi-points. The technological artefact gained by the mutant is powered by the dark energy of Chaos. The mutant never has to worry about running out of ammunition, regardless of the weapon type received. The chaotic nature of this bizarre attribute grants the mutant unlimited ammunition and the weapon remains constantly loaded, regardless of how often it is fired. To determine the type of grenades or missiles that a mutant with a grenade or missile launcher can fire, roll a D10 and consult the following chart: Psyk-out grenades and missiles affect any spellcasters in a 3 yard radius of the shell's explosion, causing them to lose D6 magic points immediately and permanently decreasing their power level by 1 permanently. In addition, any magic being employed in the area, through the area, or into the area is instantly negated, including any protective auras. A Psyk-out grenade or missile exploding within 3 yard radius of a Daemon causes D10 S 8 hits against Daemons caught within the area, though WP tests may be made to avoid the hits (one test per hit). If you wish, you may roll on this chart each time the mutant uses its Technology attribute, rather than only when the attribute is received. The type of missile or grenade is determined after the decision to shoot has been taken and the shot may not be cancelled as a result of the 'wrong' grenade type being randomly generated... Some of the weapons listed on the main table are heavy weapons and have an associated M penalty. This is noted above and is applied in full. This may mean that a mutant who receives this attribute is unable to move under his own power. Suspensors are not included in the attribute and may not be attached to a weapon received as part of this attribute. Alternatively, gamesmasters may choose to disallow this attribute.
  • Technology is a gameplay mechanic in Empire: Total War. Technology can be researched by factions to improve their economy, National Prestige, and military capabilities. Technologies may be researched at School, and can be sped up by having gentlemen at schools and building down the right path for cultural buildings in major cities. Technology is separated into three areas: Military Technologies, Industrial Technologies, and Enlightenment Technologies. Military technologies improve the military aspects of a nation's army by upgrading equipment, unlocking more advanced troops, increasing their movement range, and reducing their training and upkeep costs. Industrial Technologies increase the profitability of industrial buildings, the population impact of farms, and unlocks new industrial buildings. Enlightenment Technologies increase the town wealth of regions and increase the profitability of trade while unlocking better buildings related to trade, but also increase public unrest in regions with schools as people become better-educated. As schools have no purpose after all desired technology is researched, it is best to destroy them and replace them with cultural or economic buildings. Not only does this help with population happiness or the production of wealth, it helps reduce clamour for reform which schools foster.

The prehistorical discovery of the ability to control fire increased the available sources of food and the invention of the wheel helped humans in travelling in and controlling their environment. Recent technological developments, including the printing press, the telephone, and the Internet, have lessened physical barriers to communication and allowed humans to interact freely on a global scale. However, not all technology has been used for peaceful purposes; the development of weapons of ever-increasing destructive power has progressed throughout history, from clubs to nuclear weapons. Technology has affected society and its surroundings in a number of ways. In many societies, technology has helped develop more advanced economies (including today's global economy) and has allowed the rise of a leisure class. Many technological processes produce unwanted by-products, known as pollution, and deplete natural resources, to the detriment of the Earth and its environment. Various implementations of technology influence the values of a society and new technology often raises new ethical questions. Examples include the rise of the notion of efficiency in terms of human productivity, a term originally applied only to machines, and the challenge of traditional norms. Philosophical debates have arisen over the present and future use of technology in society, with disagreements over whether technology improves the human condition or worsens it. Neo-Luddism, anarcho-primitivism, and similar movements criticise the pervasiveness of technology in the modern world, opining that it harms the environment and alienates people; proponents of ideologies such as transhumanism and techno-progressivism view continued technological progress as beneficial to society and the human condition. Indeed, until recently, it was believed that the development of technology was restricted only to human beings, but recent scientific studies indicate that other primates and certain dolphin communities have developed simple tools and learned to pass their knowledge to other generations. • Much of the Fallout world and technology is inspired by 1950s pulp science fiction. The world is not our own, functioning due to a different set of rules. It is a world in which radiation can mutate people into ghouls and portable directed energy weapons are not only viable but also (relatively) widespread. This article aims to highlight the differences between the Fallout world's technology and our own.
The state of travel technology appears to have stablized at a level akin to current Earth norms. Planes, trains, automobiles, missiles and intrasystem rockets exist and are, as noted, largely settled technology, though as noted above, innovation requires evocation ("Voco") of avout as Saeculars lack adequate theoretical knowledge to advance the state of the art. . The most prominent example of the necessity for avout in the Saecular world is the Reticulum (a network which we are given to understand as akin to a 2010-level Internet). Newmatter (matter with unusual and useful physical properties, derived from avout practicum on cosmological constants) and products of genetic engineering also fall into this category. A with much other technology computers have stabilized at about 2010 levels, with no mention made of machine sentience or highly interactive systems. The constant bleeding-off of the brightest minds into the maths slows the pace of technological change. Successor Saecular societies reimplement technologies of earlier Saeculums, and due to abundant energy resourcing provided by avout, technology has stabilized at a late-20th-century Earth first-world level. This is not without its drawbacks, as we repeatedly hear narrators referring to "after a nuclear war" or "when the ozone level is more robust" as relatively common matters, not as significant aberrations. Technology available to the avout in concents is limited. Each avout has three newmatter items (bolt, a bolt of cloth for clothing, chord, a newmatter rope used for adornment, and sphere, a newmatter sphere with variable physical properties). Newmatter is matter composed of atoms which conform to different physical constants (speed of light, etc) than those that naturally obtain in the Arbran cosmos. Chalk, ink, rock, and wood make up much avout technology. Presumably there are smithies, physicians, and other necessary functions within the walls of a concent, but they use only pre-industrial technologies. The avout are the beneficiaries of earlier avout efforts, and so have access to page trees which provide media for writing, the vrone oak and library grape for wine, and the tangle - a mix of plants which grow food without diminishing soil quality - to feed themselves. Given Mathic proscriptions against computers and other Saecular devices, the avout are limited to cosmology - specifically, astronomy. The telescopes at the top of St. Edhar's mynster (tower) use newmatter lenses and guidestar lasers to focus and to ameliorate the effects of viewing the stars through an atmosphere, and the telescopes record their images not on film but on Photomnemonic Tablets, devices which are essentially slow motion video cameras. There is a reputation-based internet equivalent called the Reticulum to which the avout are denied access. Reticulum technology exists in a liminal space between avout and saecular, and consequently is maintained by an artisanal techologically focused order called the Ita. In general, the level of technical understanding among the avout and Ita far exceeds that of the Saecular world, although terms of the various Mathic reforms disallow avout instantiation of forbidden technologies. There are technologies which appear late in the narrative and which are never explained. Some of the more advanced avout have developed the ability to alter events without tools by mentally accessing alternate reality paths and fixing a chosen path as the actual path of reality. These avout are the source of saecular legends of Incanters and Rhetors.

(McGinn 1991) Consider the telephone, and its latest sibling the mobile phone. With the invention of the telephone, society began to depend on quicker ways of communication with others. Higher expectations for quicker communications were initially met using short-range radio systems for use in emergency vehicles. However, even higher portability was realized with miniaturization of components. This demand for a new product led to the invention of the mobile phone. The influence of portability is so pervasive now anyone can be accessible to talk in most urban places in the U.S.
(MB-Y)
In AA50 you purchase researchers for 5 IPC's each. Each researcher succeeds on a 6. Once any researcher succeeds, you get to choose to roll on 1 of 2 technology tables (one land oriented, one sea/air oriented), after which all your researchers are discarded. The techs are reduced in power. In AA42 technology was removed entirely All the technology rules have the fundamental problem of introducing a highly random element into a game of strategy. In addition, most technologies benefit the nations who have more resources, throwing the balance even further against struggling nations. My preference is not to use technology at all. To reduce the randomness of technology you can try Reduced Luck Technology, No Luck Technology or Technology Bidding In TripleA technology is controlled by the following properties * Tech Development * Selectable Tech Roll * WW2V3 Tech Model * WW2V3 * WW2V3 Land Production * WW2V3 Air Naval * Heavy Bomber Dice Rolls
  • There are a number of what appear to be obvious flaws in the "science" of Star Trek, and an equal number of explanations that attempt to explain those flaws as misunderstandings.
  • Technology may be "defined" as being anything that your grandma doesn't know how to use. She may even get angry for feeling stupid for having no fucking idea what a television is. Also, your uncle or dad may reject the use of the Internet for they are highly jealous of its contents and fucking entertainment that it allows amongst modern people. The jealousy that they admit to may be "y'all got it bad, cuz, cuz we's all got dat football we invented" which isn't really saying much about jealousy but you can really tell that it's showing somewhere inside. Whether it's them trying to swing a crowbar in your direction or shooting you with a machine gun, it's always been something. Technology has been around ever since scientists finally stopped playing with those dumb fossils and started the real business with iPods, video-games, Xbox Live, etc. all of which came out in the mid 1600s and became mainstream in the late 20th century....

• There is a research calculator available. Current technologies available (and requirements for research):
  • Technology is something is material or devices based on science or sometimes mixed with magic.
All too frequently, war is the primary driver of technological advancements. Technology is an art worth talking about! Historians may not always acknowledge the fact, but those who fought on the battlefield understand that the Third War could not have turned out as it did in the absence of technology. How were troops moved quickly across great distances? What blasted gargoyles and dragons alike from the skies? How were enemy buildings demolished? Technology relies upon ingenuity, know-how, craft, physical materials — and perhaps not a little disregard for one's safety. (Sudden explosions, unfortunately, are a hazard of the trade.) Magic messed up the world; technology will take it to grand, new heights.

The upgraded building costs the same as its predecessor, but is stronger, sometimes even significantly.Example: The Sentry Tower upgrades to the Watch Tower (in Age of Mythology). * Building improvements - Improve building attributes such as HP, work rate, or range.Example: Architecture improves building HP and decreases construction time (in Age of Empires). There are separate pages for the technologies in Age of Empires, Age of Empires II, Age of Mythology, and Age of Empires III: * Technology (Age of Empires) * Technology (Age of Empires II) * Technology (Age of Mythology) * Technology (Age of Empires III)
  • Technology is artifice and its logic and study—hence: techno-logy. Technology is as old as life itself, but for "our" "purposes" starts with Man. Most essentially technology is a machine (a power), under the aegis of the Machine God (aka. Deus Mechanicus). Different groups compete in technology through arms races. There are hot wars (manual destructive deployment) & cold wars (manual constructive deployment). E.g. * Artificial intelligence (AI), the ability of a digital computer or computer-controlled robot to perform tasks commonly associated with "intelligent beings." * Digital computer, any of a class of devices capable of solving problems by processing information in discrete form.
You can reduce the cost or increase the effectiveness of technology through certain resources and nation improvements. Technology increases your nation strength as well as your people's literacy rate. Literacy rate is only used for the Scholar resource; Nation Strength determines which nations are in your range to attack. See also: How to sell technology
  • The Industrial Age started more than 40 years ago when a young man named Gilbert Bates invented the steam engine. The years that followed saw a great advance in technology: electric lamps, steam train, pistols, modern medicine, better metallurgy techniques and so on. The most industrial city in all Arcanum, Tarant, is a brilliant example of what technology can do. With a decor similar to the Victorian-Age London, Tarant his the home to the Industrial Council, and his the only city in Arcanum with a underground steam-train (i.e subway system).
By default, each player starts without any technology at all (this can be changed with a server option). From there you each direct your research toward one advance at a time, deciding which technology you need most quickly and which you can afford to attain later. Research progress is measured in research points (bulbs), which can be generated both through trade and by scientists. The cost for each technology is fixed and depends on the number of its 'parent techs'. With r the total number of required techs for a given technology, the number of bulbs that will be needed for researching this technology is (r+2)*sqrt(r+2)*10 with default rules. See below the total cost (including parents' cost) for each technology. (Unlike previous versions of Freeciv, the research cost no longer doubles at 1AD.) Instead of selecting each new advance manually, you can establish a long-term goal that is several technologies away, and your scientists will work through all the prerequisite advances automatically. If you ignore technology completely then your scientists choose the next advance on their own. You can ask the game for a report on your science progress, or simply watch the lightbulb on the client which gets brighter as the next advance nears. The online help system displays a very helpful technology tree for every item and technology in the game, allowing you to explore the advances they require.
