abstract
  • Josh Grierson-Ryrie was elected to the Senate in May 3148. Following the resignation of Patrick Innes, Grierson-Ryrie stood for the leadership of the Free Democrats. Pundits were shocked when he placed first on the first ballot. He narrowly won on the second. However, just months into his leadership a coup began to form. Most speculated that he would be crushed in the May 3156 elections and many vied to replace him. However, all attempts to bring him down stopped when he shockingly won the 3156 elections and the Supreme Executive's office. He claimed 60% of the vote on the second round. Despite his huge win, he was overwhelmingly defeated four years later. He won just 16% of the vote. A little over a year following the elections, Grierson-Ryrie resigned as leader of the Free Democrats. Normally his resignation would have given Roger Lemalu, the Deputy Leader, the leadership. Lemalu, however, felt equally responsible for the party's massive defeat and resigned as well. This led to the accession of Party President Elwood Quilty. Grierson-Ryrie served for only a few months more in the Senate. He resigned in December 3161. His wife was appointed to his seat.
