  • Balloons are a type of aircraft, a subclass of aerostat, that rely predominantly on lighter-than-air liftgas buoyancy to provide lift. The liftgas is usually helium, hydrogen or hot air. Theoretically vacuum or lowered density air can also be used but the containers for such are weight prohibitive. Balloons may be tethered to the ground or untethered. Balloons are borne on the wind, and do not propel themselves in an particular direction. Balloons should not be confused with airships which are able to do this.

  • 1570, "a game played with a large, inflated leather ball" (possibly via [[w:|]][[Category: derivations|Balloon]] ballon) from [[w:|]][[Category: derivations|Balloon]] pallone "large ball" from palla "ball", of [[w:|]][[Category: derivations|Balloon]] origin, from [[w:|]][[Category: derivations|Balloon]] [[palla#|palla]] "ball" from Proto-Germanic *ballēn, *balluz (“‘ball’”) from Proto-Indo-European *bholn- (“‘bubble’”) from PIE base *bhel- (“‘to blow, swell, inflate’”). Akin to Old High German ballo, bal "ball" (German Ballen "bale"; Ball "ball"). More at ball.
  • Tiara's 8th original work. "BALLOON" tells a somewhat sad but hopeful story about looking on and moving forward to the future in spite of the losses and sadness we experience in our lives.
  • The hot-air balloon was originally invented in the time of Ultima IV, but bandits stole it. The Stranger found it at the exit of dungeon Hythloth, on the Isle of the Avatar, and used it to reach the White Stone. In Ultima VI a balloon was needed to reach the Shrine of Singularity. By then, the Avatar had already heard rumors about a balloon builder who had traveled to Terfin. The Avatar found the plans deep under Terfin by the dead balloon builder, and used the plans to successfully build the balloon from scratch. With the balloon and wind from the south, it was easy to reach the shrine. The hot-air balloon has not been seen in Britannia since.
  • Balloons also can vary in color. If you are playing on teams, the balloons are your team's color (red or blue). If you are playing free-for-all, they are random colors. If you steal enough balloons with a Mushroom (only in Mario Kart: Double Dash!! or Mario Kart DS), you can get an array of balloon colors. In Mario Kart DS, at the beginning of the battle, you start with one and must inflate the rest, having four spare balloons to inflate. In this game, if you lose all your ballons, you are eliminated for the rest of the round. In Mario Kart Wii and Mario Kart 7, you have three and play until time runs out. If you lose all your balloons, then you are regenerated again with all three, but you lose a point. In Mario Kart 8, the balloons have a series logo printed on it and competitors can be knocked out before time runs out. After they're out, they are a ghost and can continue to hit players and such until time runs out. Aside from Balloon Battle, Balloons are also in Mario Kart DS's Mission Mode. They are used as lives against boss missions. You only get 3, and there are no uninflated balloons in storage.
  • The Balloon is to be placed over the gas pipe in the main room, allowing it to inflate and blow out the quill.
  • There are two types of Ballons that are available in-game during Tibia's 10th anniversary event: * Red Balloon * Green Balloon Esta es una página de desambiguación, una ayuda a la navegación que cataloga páginas que de otra forma compartirían un mismo título. • Usually though, he just fills them with water to use as Water balloons to throw at Susie or at Hobbes for a practical joke. Calvin and Hobbes often use water balloons as part of their G.R.O.S.S. club to get rid of Susie (by throwing them at her.) One instance was a Story arc in which a conventional helium balloon was somehow able to lift Calvin high into the sky. (Probably another of his imagination shemes.) The balloon went thousands of feet into the sky, then popped when the air pressure outside got too low. Calvin managed to save himself with his Transmogrifier Gun though. It suggested that Calvin flew over Chagrin Falls, Ohio (Bill Watterson's hometown) due to numerious hints Calvin says. In a regular strip, Calvin began to blow a balloon, and his head inflated instead of the balloon. In another early strip, Calvin has another helium balloon. He climbs with it onto a stepladder (wich Hobbes was holding for him) expecting it to lift him up into the air. To his disapointment, nothing happened, to wich Hobbes suggested jumping. Calvin did this, but only for him to land hard on his face and the balloon lifting up without him.
  • Balloons are made of materials such as rubber or latex, and can come in a variety of colours. Strings can be wrapped tightly around the neck, to carry the balloon, without actually having to hold it directly.
  • Balloons appear in a variety of colors, tied to a weighted string that keeps them suspended in mid-air. In Battle Dojo, Balloons are decorated Battle Dojo's logo. Likewise, when found in Turf War, balloons are decorated with the Turf War logo.
  • Balloons appear in Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped, Crash Bash, Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex, and Crash Bandicoot: The Huge Adventure.
  • The balloon crashed on the Island, with the real Henry Gale as an occupant. He was killed in as yet unknown circumstances, although the survivors assumed that he was murdered by one of the Others, Ben, who subsequently stole his identity. Gale was buried in a grave next to the crash site. The balloon had an enclosed gondola with several metal cylinders attached and a hatch on top. The side of the gondola had a decal reading, "Minnesota Metallurgy & Mining Co." Under that were the words, "Proudly Sponsored By" with decals for Mr. Cluck's Chicken Shack and Nozz-a-La Cola. The Widmore Labs logo was also seen at the side of the gondola, above the tanks. The balloon itself was red with a smiley face logo on the side, similar to the smiley face button from the graphic novel Watchmen, which the writers have expressed an appreciation for in past interviews.

Two styles of hot air balloons predominate, the montgolfiere pure hot air balloons, and roziere hybrid balloons which use hot air combined with an inherently buoyant liftgas of hydrogen or helium. Two styles of balloons that rely on inherently buoyant liftgas predominate, the ambient pressure balloon and the superpressure balloon. Ambient pressure balloons will burst when the volume at ambient pressure exceeds the volume allowed by the balloon envelope, unless the weight of the payload prevents breaching this operational ceiling altitude. Superpressure balloons have tougher envelopes that contain the liftgas at a higher pressure than the atmosphere, so will lift up to an operational altitude and not further, when the buoyancy provided by the pressurized liftgas equalizes with the density of ambient air, and thus will not burst.
  • Balloon était un oiseau magique de Romance Dawn Vol. 2 et un ami d' Anne.
  • If you're in a battle with some Balloons, you had better start tossing out those Aquas and physical attacks quickly. Balloons are highly unstable. On their turns they may just hit you with a weak physical attack. It's equally likely, however, that they'll use their Huge Explosion attack. This will kill them, but deal damage to all of your party members. It's not all that powerful, but it's definitely worse than just a physical attack.
  • Slipping on a Banana (so long as it's not from your team), running into someone with a Star, getting smashed by a player strengthened by a Mega Mushroom... these are just a few of the many ways you can lose Balloons. Once a driver is knocked over, the sting snaps, and the Balloon floats up a little and then pops.
  • Balloon is a Ruku (怪鳥(ルク) Ruku?, literally translated as "monstrous bird") from Romance Dawn V.2 and best friend to Ann. It was sought after by Spiel for its magical blood, and was the last of its species. It always returns to Ann's side no matter where she is when separated.
  • When Kirby uses the ability, he inflates himself, much like a balloon. If the player taps the screen with the stylus, Kirby will fill up with air and become an inflated balloon. As a balloon, his body turns red and he can float leisurely through the air. But like all balloons, he is extremely fragile, and if tapped by the stylus enough times, he will pop and shrink back down in a tremendous explosion, which can also defeat nearby enemies. In earlier games, namely Kirby's Dream Land and Spring Breeze, Kirby had similar properties (though he still has arms) when he imbibes the power of the Sparkling Stars. But in these earlier appearances, Kirby doesn't return back to normal size in an explosion, but instead by simply releasing the Sparkling Stars. A similar ability that appeared in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards was the Exploding Gordo combo ability. Aside from the Sparkling Stars and Copy Abilities, in most of the main games, Kirby himself also has the natural ability to inflate himself and fly about in the air, although he is able to control where he flies; and deflates by spitting out a puff of air.
  • Balloon is the default weapon type used by Tingle in Hyrule Warriors. It is described as a giant balloon made for floating through the sky. Its Strong Attack triggers a quick escape function allowing Tingle to dodge attacks or dish out further regular or combo attacks. In addition to his balloon, Tingle can use an array of items and equipment as part of his moveset such as Tingle Bombs, map roller, his Wallet, and even a Tingle Statue. Tingle's standard weak point attack causes a fairy to appear which Tingle will try to grab only to hit a group of Bombs surrounding his opponent causing them to explode. Tingle's Boss weak point attack, he will pull out a large Tingle Bomb and throw it at the Boss, then lead up into the air and finish the attack with a powerful kick to the Bosses' weak point.

  • The Balloon is a vehicle made by Slink that can be made to go up, down, left and right easily by the hand, and with slight difficulty by norns. When the hand clicks on the upper half of the balloon, the balloon will go up. When the hand clicks on the lower left of the balloon the balloon will go down. When the hand clicks on the left side of the basket, the balloon goes left. When the hand clicks on the right side of the basket, the balloon goes right. When the balloon is close to the ground it will slow its descent to help prevent "stopping between floors". It will also go straight down in most cases. For the norns Pull will make the balloon go up in all cases. However, Push gives left, right, and down randomly. Like cats in trees, norns won't be so good at getting down as they are up. The Albian Black Hole patches are installed as a part of the Balloon installation to insure the safety of your norns. Only one balloon at a time is allowed in Albia. Pushing the Emergency Recall button (which installs on the stone wall above the pump) will cause the balloon to return to its starting position in the garden and remain there, stationary. You must then land it. V2.0 added color and an Emergency Recall button. Please remove Balloon V1.0 with the included Balloon V1.0 Remover. The C1 class numbers used by Balloon are 3 2 210 and 2 3 210.
  • Balloon returns as an enemy, fought at Mt. Hobs and on the overworld near Fabul. They are a stronger version of the Gray Bomb, and fights similarly to it. However, it is weak against bow and arrow attacks unlike the Gray Bomb.
  • The balloon is an item in Nintendogs and Nintendogs + Cats. Balloons come in three colors: red, yellow, and blue. A balloon can be inflated by blowing into the DS/3DS mic. It will pop if the player blows it too big, or if one of the player's dogs pops it. Balloons can be purchased at the Discount Store for $0.20 in the DS version. It is much easier to get in the 3DS version, only appearing in the shopping menu BARC Store for $2. In the 3DS version, they're already slightly inflated, but if you blow into the mic, the balloon will become larger. To keep it the size that you blow it up to be, let it go when it reaches the size that you want, otherwise the air will escape.
