  • The Toclafane from Doctor Who were the final evolution of the human race, cyborgs integrated into spherical, mechanical shells. The name "Toclafane" was given to them by the Master, after a fairy tale monster from Gallifrey, the local equivalent of Earth's "Boogeyman".
  • The Toclafane were cyborgs used as the Master's brawn and muscle when taking over Earth. They were the heads of humans from the year 100 trillion integrated into a dark-grey sphere-shaped metallic shell, held together with a magnetic clamp. The humans heads have wiring plugged into their wizened heads. The spheres were very little over a foot tall and were sealed shut. They became a hive mind, allowing them to see the destruction of an individual as no threat. Their personality was amoral and childlike from a failed attempt to regress themselves to children; instead having rather primitive emotional traits and an enjoyment in killing their great ancestors because "it's fun".
  • In the year 100 trillion, the last remnants of Humanity were living in the planet Malcassairo. It is notable that they have reverted to their 21st century form. There they lived in large underground colonies, similar to ant colonies. Due to the “death of all the stars”, Malcassairo was in eternal night, with the colonies being the only refuge from both the cold and the Futurekind, a vicious, carnivorous race roaming the Malcassairo plains for human prey, yet is itself implied to be another human descendant.
  • The Toclafane were the humans from the year 100,000,000,000,000. As the end of the universe approached, man-kind had looked for a way to live beyond the collapse of reality, and they found that they could do so by installing themselves into machines. The Toclafane resemble black, metal spheres that can levitate and fly through space. They have spikes and knives that extend from their body and posses blasters that can disintergrate a human being. They traveled back in time to the 21st century with the help of the Master, to escape the end of the universe.

The Toclafane resemble black, metal spheres that can levitate and fly through space. They have spikes and knives that extend from their body and posses blasters that can disintergrate a human being. They traveled back in time to the 21st century with the help of the Master, to escape the end of the universe. The Master, who turned the Doctor's TARDIS into a paradox machine, initiated an invasion of the Earth using the toclafane and allowing him to subjugate the planet and it's people.
In one level of the colony, humans placed their hopes on Dr. Yana, an old scientist, to find a way to leave this last refuge and go to the mythical place of Utopia, a planet known to have been safe from the impending doom. His efforts has led to the creation of a large spacecraft, resembling a giant rocket. Due to the arrival and help of the Doctor, the rocket was made active. It turned out Dr. Yana was in fact The Master, a renegade Time Lord. He escaped on the Doctor's TARDIS, leaving him and his companions as the Futurekind attacked the base on Malcassairo. The humans eventually arrived the alleged location of 'Utopia', which turned out to be nothing more then another cold, dead planet. In desperation, they cannibalised themselves into floating metal spheres in their desire to outlive the universe. The Master traveled back to the end of the universe, and promised to return them to Earth in exchange for an alliance. The Master used the TARDIS to create a paradox machine, which enabled the Toclafane in 21st-century Earth to murder their ancestors without affecting their own existence. They subdued the population and forced them to build a fleet of rockets, to take the Toclafane to the stars in the beginnings of a new Time Lord empire. However, the Doctor and his companions defeated the Master and destroyed the Paradox Machine, trapping the Toclafane at the end of the Universe and "undo-ing" the damage they have inflicted.

Their personality was amoral and childlike from a failed attempt to regress themselves to children; instead having rather primitive emotional traits and an enjoyment in killing their great ancestors because "it's fun". Each Toclafane had built-in life-support and teleportation systems. The shells were capable of flight, and could survive the harsh climate and temperature of space with no side-effects. Concealed within the shell were extendable razor-sharp blades and spikes, used as their up-close-and-personal weaponry. The spheres were also equipped with red laser guns that could disintegrate life forms. The spheres could be shot down by an electrical surge of 58.5 kiloamperes, with a transferred charge of 510 megajoules precisely. Man-made electrical barriers could be constructed to sustain the right energy level balance needed to successfully fry the technology incorporated into the Toclafane spheres, rendering them useless and making them drop to the ground, although the human head would still survive.
