  • Loom was a forested region of the planet Ferenginar. According to "The Story of Ving and Ding", it was in the forests of Loom where the timber weevil hunter Fing finally found the brothers Ving and Ding after they had left the civilized world. (DS9 reference: Legends of the Ferengi)
  • Loom was a banderbear and the twin of Meeru. During the First Age of Flight, he and his brother tended timber barges. Many years later, during the events of The Last of the Sky Pirates, he and Meeru accompanied Twig and Rook aboard the Skyraider on their mission to rescue Cowlquape from the Tower of Night. After Meeru was killed by a harpoon shot by the Guardians of Night, the grieving Loom jumped off the ship after his twin brother, falling to his death.
  • Players can use the loom to make the following: * Sack, requires 4 jute fibres * Basket, requires 6 willow branches * Unfinished net, requires 5 bunches of flax * Strip of cloth, requires 2 balls of wool * Milestone capes, requires 1 ball of wool per 10 levels (i.e. one for milestone cape (10), two for milestone cape (20), etc.)
  • The Loom is a furniture item used as a Crafting Station. It is used to craft Silk, Banners, and Vanity Items. It is crafted at the Sawmill with 12 wood of any kind. It can also be found in Underground Houses.
  • Only three looms exist in RuneScape: * South of Falador, just west of the Falador cabbage patch, within the farmhouse. * Slightly north of Taverley, south of Burthorpe. The loom is located southwest of the Heroes' Guild, near the Crafting and Smithing/smelting area. * In the Cadarn Clan district of Prifddinas, near the flax field.

  • Loom is a technology in Age of Empires II that can be researched at the Town Center. Once researched, it makes Villagers harder to kill by adding +15 HP, +1 armor, and +2 pierce armor for a total of 40 HP and 1/2 armor. Loom is effective during the early game, as it helps to protect Villagers from an early attack, but decreases in effectiveness as the strength of enemy armies increases. Additionally, Loom makes Villagers far more formidable against wild animals. Without Loom, a single Villager (except Magyar Villagers) will lose to any wild animal if it strikes first. With Loom, however, a single Villager can even kill two wild animals if they do not attack at the same time and do not strike first.

  • According to one view of Gallifreyan history, Looms were used by Time Lords to perpetuate their race in the wake of the Pythia's Curse. Unable to procreate sexually, the Time Lords had to rely on the Rassilon-invented devices to "weave" new life from genetic material. (PROSE: Cat's Cradle: Time's Crucible, Lungbarrow) However, there were instances of womb-born children during the period where Looms were in use. Rassilon passed a decree that "only the Loom-born shall inherit the Legacy of Rassilon", and enforced this decree by wiping out the womb-born. (PROSE: Cold Fusion) There were later instances of womb-born Gallifreyans living amongst the Loom-born (PROSE: The Infinity Doctors) According to Leela, each Family on Gallifrey had their own "Family Loom" which they used to create new members of their Family. She felt pity for Gallifreyans, because the Looms prevented "true children" from existing on their planet. Gallifreyans were born as "full-grown adults", although they were child-like at the time of their birth, and had to mature mentally like any young life-form. The genetic relationship between people originating from each Family Loom was lateral rather than direct, meaning that people from the same Loom were "cousins" of each other. (PROSE: Lungbarrow) Looms also kept a tally of all the people they birthed, and could normally indicate how old each of its "offspring" was and how many regenerations each had gone through. Data from all the Family Looms on Gallifrey was sent to the Bureau of Loomographic Records, which served as a central repository of genetic information. A Loom was given to each of the Houses of Gallifrey, and each House had a specified number of cousins which could exist in the Family at any given time. The House of Lungbarrow, for example, was allotted forty-five cousins. When a member of a Family died for the final time, the Loom would weave a new cousin into the Family. Cases did exist when an additional cousin was woven, such as the Doctor's cousin Owis, but were extremely rare, as this was illegal. When he was only five years old, the Doctor boasted that he could remember existing in the Loom before he was actually born: I can remember waiting to be born...It was like being all strung out. All unravelled inside the Loom. I was spread really thin…I couldn’t think. Not put thoughts together. … But I knew where I was and what was happening. I couldn't wait to get out. And then I was born. My lungs nearly burst. The first rush of air was so cold...."The Doctor The Eighth Doctor once said that he was loomed, yet remembered having parents and a childhood. He knew that one of these was a dream, but could not recall which. (PROSE: The Shadows of Avalon)
