  • Claiming is a game mechanic in many MMORPGs, including both Final Fantasy XI and Final Fantasy XIV, that prevents an enemy being fought by a player or group from being attacked by other players and prevents other players from receiving its Item drops.
  • When a hand is obvious that certain number of tricks can be taken, it can be claimed to do so. For example, after drawing trumps, if the declarer has only trumps left, he/she can claim all remaining tricks.
  • You can claim a region of a gameworld of Creativerse for yourself and by that you will receive ownership over this piece of land. Of course you can only claim land if it's not already claimed by someone else, and you will have to "pay" for your claim too. You can then protect this claim so nobody can change your buildings or harvest there, and/or you can grant different authorizations to specific players, allowing or disallowing them different kinds of actions on your land - and one by one for any other claims of yours as well.

Each world is divided into 26x26 (676) areas, and each area is divided into 8x8 (= 64) regions available for claiming (43,264 all in all). These optional claims are each 64 blocks in length and also 64 blocks in width, reaching from the lowest point in the world (00, end of the world blocks) to the highest (255) in the sky. Not every world will offer you the option to claim though, depending on their creator. When creating a new world, you can choose to deactivate the claim feature in the advanced options. Claims are "on" by default otherwise and also available on social worlds.
