The real Enrico Fermi was murdered as a young boy by the current Enrico impostor. He was an alien drone sent to spy on earth. With his superior intellect, and transformation skills, he lived undercover for years. As an adult, his superior intellect had him invited to join the Manhattan Project. He accepted understanding that there were items far more important than just atom research.
When he learned that the humans planned to expand their colony beyond just earth, he received commands to exterminate them. He hurt his long-time friend Daghlian but was ultimately brought down and murdered before he could sabotage their research.
