Starting last (22nd) in the field, Massey had a quiet afternoon, completed most of the laps, and wound up with a 13th place finish that would ultimately prove to be his career best. Massey's next two races would come in the 1957 season. He started the year off rough at Martinsville, finishing last (40th) after early transmission issues. Things didn't go much better at North Wilkesboro, starting last (26th) and finishing 18th after late radiator woes. Massey's final race would come in 1960, when he competed at Winston-Salem. Massey again struggled in qualifying, starting last (18th) and only driving to 15th place in the race due to an axle issue.
