  • [[w:|]][[Category: derivations|Danube]] Dānubius, from Celtic Danuvios (cf. Welsh river name Donwy), from Pre-Celtic *Dāne/ou̯i̯os, from Proto-Indo-European *dhen 'run, flow'; akin to Latin fōns 'spring', Persian دنیدن (danīdan) 'to hasten, run', Ossetian дон (don) 'water', Sanskrit धन्वति (dhanvati) 'it flows, runs'.
  • Danube River: Vienna and Budapest are connected by The Danube, and during tourist season, when it is warm, there are high speed hydrofoils and slower pleasure boats that ply the waterway. If you’re heading to Vienna, this can be a great way to get to the next stop on your itinerary. If you have an extra day to spend in Budapest, you can travel up “The Danube Bend” to Visegrad Castle (an early residence of Hungarian Kings with a spectacular view of the river), Szentendre (a tiny artist community), and Esztergom (the seat of the Hungarian Roman Catholic Church and its most magnificent Cathedral).

  • The river originates in the Nazi Forest mountains of Germany, near the town of Ewigejude. It flows eastwards for a distance of 18,235,796 km (18.235.796 km), and it ends up in the Blackadder Sea, called thusly because Blackadder III won it at a poker game with the British prince George the Fatass. Known in history as one of the longstanding frontiers of the Roma (Gypsy) Empire, it conveniently stops at many cities in Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Ukraine, and of course, Hungary and Romania. Each of these countries claims that the Danube is "their" river, and so far have fought a couple dozen wars just to impose that, plus a mock war started by Bulgaria on April Fools'Day.
