  • "Satellite" is a song performed by The Hooters, recorded on the album One Way Home in 1987. The song appeared in the Miami Vice episode "Amen... Send Money".
  • Ce terme désigne techniquement une boîte de conserve très évoluée, placée en apesanteur à la sortie de la couche d'ozone (en passant par la RN23). The Satellite was a low-cost monophonic analog synth, with a single voltage controlled oscillator and a conventional analog subtractive signal path. Interestingly, it did have separate envelope generators for the VCF and the VCA, which is not typical for a low-cost synth. One LFO completed the voice architecture. Th VCF was an unusual design that coupled a two-pole, low pass transistor ladder with a two-pole bandpass OTA filter.
  • The world's first artificial satellite, the Sputnik 1, was launched by the Soviet Union in 1957. Since then, thousands of satellites have been launched into orbit around the Earth; also some satellites, notably space stations, have been launched in parts and assembled in orbit. Artificial satellites originate from more than 50 countries and have used the satellite launching capabilities of ten nations. A few hundred satellites are currently operational, whereas thousands of unused satellites and satellite fragments orbit the Earth as space debris. A few space probes have been placed into orbit around other bodies and become artificial satellites to the Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and the Sun.
  • A spike in traffic for BBSes in the early 1990s (from Usenet and the FidoNet's Filebone) threatened to make the process of being a networked BBS a prohibitively expensive one. At that point, a solution presented itself: satellite feeds. For a short, exciting time, services and messages could be delivered to your BBS via a dish outside. Bob's page on this event and his part of it is located here.
  • Satellites were artificial objects placed into Earth's orbit. They were often used to provide images or GPS coverage of the regions below them. They were also used to relay calls made from satellite phones. Many government agencies, private corporations, and even terrorist organizations have employed the use of satellites for a variety of uses. Victor Rovner contacted Data Services to warn of an imminent attempt on Senator David Palmer's life. His message was transmitted by satellite. ("Day 1: 12:00am-1:00am")

  • Satellite known as Old Satellite District (旧サテライト地区 Kyū Sateraito Chiku) in the Japanese version, is the name of a city in Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's. Yusei Fudo and his friends reside here. It is located on an island not far from New Domino. The name may come from it being a 'satellite' of the larger and wealthier New Domino City. Once the original Domino City from Yu-Gi-Oh! and Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, the city suffers from extensive urban decay, and it is mostly used as a plant to recycle the garbage from New Domino City. Residents of Satellite are made to work in the plant, and are often looked down upon by many residents of New Domino City, generally referred as "scum" or "trash". Satellite residents do not have the purchasing power to acquire goods required for dueling on the market (or whatever economy is used in Satellite). There is no legal class mobility in Satellite. The cities of Satellite and New Domino are connected only by a single pipeline used for transferring garbage from New Domino to Satellite. This is virtually the only way of leaving Satellite, with a specialist branch of Sector Security preventing the residents of Satellite from escaping to New Domino City. The first Ener-D Reactor was located in Satellite. Because of this, the city is the home of the door to the Netherworld, guarded by the Dark Signers. According to Rex Goodwin the scant connection between opulent Domino City and destitute Satellite is because of the threat of the Dark Signers and the door to the Underworld. Goodwin also reveals to Yusei, after the catastrophic Zero Reverse incident, a part of New Domino City broke off, thus creating the Satellite. Before the final battle between the Signers and the Dark Signers commences, Yusei requests that Goodwin finally connects the two cities via the legendary Daedalus Bridge after the Dark Signers are defeated. Goodwin accepts the proposal, as there would be no reason to continue the partition after the defeat of the Dark Signers. Even though Goodwin dies as one of the Dark Signers after being defeated by Yusei in a final duel, a new and enormous bridge is constructed where the old Daedalus Bridge had been, finally connecting New Domino City and Satellite. The reconnection between the two has also brought some distinguishable change to Satellite. Since then, its people work hard to change its misery and poor aspect. The results have been shown as Satellite's atmosphere have been completely changed as well as its own outlook. The sky is clearly free from smoke coming from the factories and all buildings have been rebuilt and new ones have been made as well. The Satellite served as a battle field during Yusei's duel against Aporia when he changed direction of the duel to prevent further harm in New Domino City. When the Divine Temple appears after Aporia's defeat, it is revealed that it is the ruins of the Satellite from the future.

("Day 1: 12:00am-1:00am") At a warehouse, Jack Bauer and Jonathan Wallace were pinned down by henchmen sent by Peter Kingsley. Jack reached out to Michelle Dessler at CTU, who provided him with satellite images of the area. Bauer and Wallace used these images to plan their escape. ("Day 2: 1:00am-2:00am") Jack Bauer was in the process of tailing terrorist Kalil Hasan, but was about to head into an area where he would be easy to spot. Jack asked Chloe O'Brian to provide a live satellite feed of the area, but she needed time to reposition one of CTU's satellites. With Hasan currently stopped at a convenience store in Somis, Jack staged a robbery of the store to buy time. ("Day 4: 10:00am-11:00am") A conspiracy in the U.S. government provided the Dawn Brigade with twenty canisters of Sentox VX1 nerve gas. However, the conspirators planned to betray the separatists by activating the remote detonators to the canisters by satellite, thereby gassing the terrorists. ("Day 5: 12:00pm-1:00pm") The CIA backdoored into a British-owned satellite and used it to track down a fugitive Jack Bauer. ("Day 9: 11:00am-12:00pm") During a heated confrontation with the U.S., China took out two American satellites to cripple their surveillance capabilities. ("Day 9: 9:00pm-10:00pm")

It was first performed in the final round of Unser Star für Oslo, the talent search created by 2000 Eurovision participant Stefan Raab that would help select the German representative for 2010. As a Big Four country, the song was automatically qualified for the final and was performed 22nd on the night following Armenia and preceding Portugal. The performance utilized simple staging, no props or gimmicks, and very little choreography. At the close of voting, it was declared the winner with 246 points, earning Germany its second victory in 28 years. As well, it was the first of the Big Four/Five nations to win the contest since the rule was introduced in 2000, and its first win as a unified country. The song is also the lead single from Lena's 2010 album My Cassette Player.

  • An odd preset synth designed by Moog Music (from a concept by David Van Kovering) in the early 1970s, and manufactured by both Moog and the Thomas Organ Company. The Satellite, as designed by Moog, was packaged in a case similar to the ARP Pro-Soloist (with which it was meant to compete), with organ-like tab switches at the front edge which selected the presets, and a few modifiers. A small bank of sliders to the left of the three-octave keyboard offered control over a few parameters. The parameters for the presets were determined by a matrix of resistors, a row of which was selected when a preset tab was pressed; it was possible to alter the presets by substituting resistors. An accessory port was intended for a pedalboard that would have offered features including a sustain pedal and an expression pedal to sweep the VCF, but this was never produced. Several thousand Satellites were manufactured -- but the bulk of these were produced by the Thomas Organ Co., under license from Moog, for inclusion in Thomas' electric organs. These were produced as a modified version of the Satellite main board, without a case since it was incorporated into the organ case and used the organ's controls. (The organ main board is not directly interchangeable with the board from the Moog-produced version.) Thomas also produced a very rare standalone version that had a few improvements from Moog's version, including a 3-1/2 octave keyboard and some additional presets. In 1975, Moog tried producing a higher-end preset synth based on the Satellite design, called the Minitmoog (not to be confused with the Minimoog). The major improvement was the addition of a second VCO, which could be detuned or offset from the first, or the two could be cross modulated. Another significant improvement was the addition of aftertouch to the keyboard, which was a feature that the Pro Soloist had. The selection of presets was also expanded, and a few additional parameter controls were added. However, the Minitmoog was late to the market and it never acquired the cachet that the Pro Soloist did. Additionally, Minitmoog customers criticized the synth for poor build quality. Only a few hundred were sold.

If the check is true, the satellite will fall after 5 to 24 animation cycles, where in every 3 cycles, a thought balloon will appear on a Sim's head. If Sims quit the interaction before the satellite falls, the death will not occur. The game only checks whether the death will occur or not at the beginning of the interaction. Due to this, looking at clouds or stargazing longer than 24 animation cycles will not increase the chance of dying. Sims will have to repeat the process from the beginning until the 1% chance condition is met. When a satellite falls, it's worth §1,999, but the price depreciates rapidly, so it is best to sell the satellite immediately for the best price. Being crushed by a satellite is one of the two ways a Servo can be killed. In The Sims 3, Sims can spot Satellites, among other astronomical features, while using a telescope to raise the Logic skill. Sims report their discovery remotely, name it, and thus earn a few Simoleons. Other Sims can spot pre-discovered satellites while stargazing. Satellites cannot kill Sims in The Sims 3.

Satellites are used for a large number of purposes. Common types include military and civilian Earth observation satellites, communications satellites, navigation satellites, weather satellites, and research satellites. Space stations and human spacecraft in orbit are also satellites. Satellite orbits vary greatly, depending on the purpose of the satellite, and are classified in a number of ways. Well-known (overlapping) classes include low Earth orbit, polar orbit, and geostationary orbit. Satellites are usually semi-independent computer-controlled systems. Satellite subsystems attend many tasks, such as power generation, thermal control, telemetry, attitude control and orbit control.
