| abstract | - Alderic is a human character who appears in the Smurfs comic book story "The Flute Smurfers". He is a sorcerer who is friends with Papa Smurf, who practices his magical arts in secret for fear of the people. In the story, he summons Papa Smurf through a letter to help him deal with a case of a person who has fallen ill with the case of "Monotone Melancholy." In response, Papa Smurf and his little Smurfs create a magic flute with which the sorcerer could use to cure the person of that condition. Although Alderic and the Smurfs were careful to use the magic flute only at night to keep other people from finding out, the village doctor who was unsuccessful in curing the man of his condition overheard and sought to steal the flute so that he could turn the townsfolk against Alderic. Catching Papa Smurf alone with the flute, the village doctor mugged him on the spot under the cover of darkness and then proceeded to use the flute against the townsfolk to stir them up into a riot against the sorcerer. The Smurfs who followed the village doctor to his residence managed to retrieve the flute from him and return to Alderic to warn him in advance of what the villagers were planning to do to him, but they arrived only in time to see them arriving as an angry mob, setting the sorcerer's house on fire. Papa Smurf forced Alderic to play the flute so that he could get the mob to settle down, but unfortunately a rock that was flung through the window hit Alderic in the back of the head, causing him to drop the flute under a bookshelf. When the Smurfs failed to rescue the flute, they fled for their lives and hid in the forest for safety. When Johan and Peewit showed up to deal with the unruly crowd, they saw Alderic still alive and escorted him to Homnibus the enchanter after causing the crowd to scatter. It is unknown what became of Alderic after the story's end.
