rdfs:comment
  • Joe Hines (August 24, 1937 - ) is a former NASCAR driver from Statesboro, GA. He competed in three Nextel Cup Series events in his career. Hines' debut came in 1969, when he competed at College Station. Starting 33rd in the field of thirty-eight, Hines wasn't long for the race as an early sway bar issue sidelined him to 34th by day's end. Undeterred, Hines tried again to make the 500 in 1971. But it was again not to be. Starting a lowly 31st in the Qualifier, Hines only lasted the first lap before an engine failure took him out and put him in last place (33rd), missing the Daytona 500.

Starting 33rd in the field of thirty-eight, Hines wasn't long for the race as an early sway bar issue sidelined him to 34th by day's end. Hines next race would also be on a big track, competing at Daytona in 1970. Starting 19th in the Daytona 500 Qualifier race (then a points race), Hines actually had a solid day and drove home with a 17th place finish. Despite that career-best run, it was not enough to put Hines in the 500 field. Undeterred, Hines tried again to make the 500 in 1971. But it was again not to be.
