In the Star Fleet Battles timeline, the Gettysburg-class heavy command cruiser USS Vincennes was converted to use new X-technology to improve its combat capabilities. The new Vincennes class prototype was only partly successful but it led to the production or upgrade of ten more vessels of this class until 2304, after which production increased. These ships succeeded Constitution-class heavy cruisers as the core of battle groups during the final days of the General War and during the Andromedan War. The standard crew complement of a Vincennes was 405 (including a Prime Team) plus 96 surface action specialists.
