Dan alternately hates and lusts for his sister (in a comedic fashion) and is obsessed with Dwarf Fortress. Krotera has is more of a bumbling idiot, but has a powerful imagination and an odd fascination with trains.There are also several other sideplots of varying relevancy that involve other works and fandoms, which is where the crossovers come in - the concept of imaginary worlds and afterlives is borrowed from Problem Sleuth, and characters from Touhou, Warhammer 40000, Yume Nikki, Problem Sleuth and Homestuck all show up, although most of the time the subplots do not directly come into contact with the main plot of Iji going through the game's events.The author is a noted Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann fan and the story is basically going for awesomeness and pointlessness at the same time.
