(DS9: "Family Business") To insure Jadzia Dax would enter the Klingon afterlife in Sto-vo-kor, Quark joined Miles O'Brien, Doctor Julian Bashir and Worf under the command of General Martok in a raid on the Monac shipyards. When boarding the ship, Quark declared himself in traditional Klingon custom as Quark, son of Keldar. (DS9: "Shadows and Symbols") This character was only mentioned in dialogue.

Quark discovered the headskirts dated back many years and were worn by survivors of floods, financial collapses, earthquakes and other disasters to have taken place on Ferenginar. Quark realised that his father was teaching him an important lesson - despite tragedy, Ferengi can always make profit. (DS9 novel: Legends of the Ferengi) Whenever Quark had dealings with Klingons, he would follow their tradition and introduce himself as "Quark, son of Keldar".
