  • Holt was born during the first quarter of 1930 in Uxbridge, Middlesex, and met Derek Meddings while at school. He started working in a laboratory at Denham Film Studios in 1944, and stayed with the studios for seven years. In 1951, Holt went for an interview at MGM when he saw that the company required somebody who knew sensitometry. Following an interview, he got the job, which involved doing the opticals, miniature photography, special effects, and back projection. Some years later, Holt met up with Norman Foster, who worked at A.P. Films/Century 21. Foster asked the former if he was interested, after which Holt went to the Slough Trading Estate to see the A.P. Films/Century 21 team, whom impressed him. Having got an interview at the company, he stopped working for MGM. Holt was interviewed by Reg Hill followed by Gerry Anderson and got the job, joining the company when production on Thunderbirds was drawing to a close. Holt currently lives in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, with a woman called Betty (née Peacock; Ken and her got married in Hendon, Middlesex, during 1965).
