| abstract | - Elmer Gilliam is a former NASCAR driver from Morristown, TN. He competed in four Nextel Cup Series events in his career. Gilliam's debut came in 1965, when he competed at Valdosta in Elmo Langley's equipment. It was a tough race for the driver, completing just one lap before finishing 20th in the twenty-one car field with push rod issues. Unfortunately, Gilliam's final three starts, all in 1967, turned out to also be quite a struggle. In three starts, he managed just nine laps. Mechanical issues bit him early: four laps in at Trenton (35th), three laps in at Fonda (29th), and then just two circuits in his career finale at Islip (29th).
