| abstract | - Doraemon (ドラえもん) is a Japanese manga series created by Fujiko F. Fujio (the pen name of Hiroshi Fujimoto) which later became an anime series and an Asian franchise. The series is about an earless robotic cat named Doraemon, who travels back in time from the 22nd century to aid a schoolboy, Nobita Nobi. The series first appeared in December 1969, when it was published simultaneously in six different magazines. In total, 1,344 stories were created in the original series, which are published by Shogakukan under the Tentōmushi (てんとう虫) manga brand, extending to forty-five volumes. The volumes are collected in the Takaoka Central Library in Toyama, Japan, where both Fujiko Fujio were born. Viz Media bought the license to the Doraemon manga in the 1990s for an English-language release, but canceled it without explanation before any volumes were released. However, Doraemon: Nobita's Dinosaur 2006 (The 26th film in the franchise) got a private screening in Washington D.C. in November 2008. A majority of Doraemon episodes are comedies with lessons regarding values such as integrity, perseverance, courage, family and respect for elders. Several noteworthy environmental issues are often visited, including homeless animals, global warming, endangered species, deforestation, and pollution. Miscellaneous educational topics such as dinosaurs, the flat Earth theory, wormhole traveling, Gulliver's Travels, and the history of Japan are often covered.

Doraemon is created on March 9, 2112 and is manufactured at the Matsushiba Robot Factory. Initially, he is a yellow body with a higher voice and ears but because of the malfunction in electricity while he is being assembled. He becomes the only robotic cat with one less screw which makes him only a second rate robot. Most of the time, he fails his tests on the Academy as a result of the malfunction. Because of this, he could not be auctioned to rich families so he is given to the poor family of Sewashi. Although he is described as a cat, he does not resemble the normal feline creatures on earth. He is very sentient as he could understand and communicate well with other human beings properly. Doraemon is color blue with highlights of white on his mouth, belly, hands and feet. He has three whiskers on each side of his cheeks and a red nose. He has no ear but he is capable of hearing. His special feature is a pocket found on his stomach that is similar to a kangaroo. This is a very special pocket as it is fourth-dimensional that produces many futuristic gadgets and devices such as a handbag that picks up an object even with a distance, “Wherever Door” that allows one to go anywhere and “What if Phone Booth” that makes it possible to travel to another world. He has no special powers that enable him to fly or to swim fast but he has his magic pocket that contains everything that he needs. His main weaknesses are rats and mice because he is very afraid of them. It is said that he develops a phobia when he had been bitten on his ears which caused him to change color from yellow to blue and for his ears to disappear. This really made him so depressed that he cried for a long time. He is so paranoid with them that he scavenges from his pocket the nuclear bomb when he feels that they are around. Another of his weaknesses is he hates being cold. It is interesting to notice that even if he is made out of chips and metals, he has the capacity to feel emotions like sadness when he lost his ears and fear when seeing a mouse. It could be possible that he has a central nervous system like the humans that contains a brain that has an amygdala that controls these kinds of things. Although he is a robot, he eats a lot of food and his favorite is a dorayaki or a snack with red bean paste. This idea suggests that even if he is a robot, he might have a digestive system or a mechanism that could digest this food as he often eats it and it does not really harm him. 1. Takecopter A propeller made out of bamboo that is attached to the head that enables Doraemon to fly. 2. Voodoo Camera When the camera is clicked, it creates a voodoo doll version of the people. 3. Effect Amplifying Mic It can make any speech moving. 4. Guided Missile It is an annoying missile capable of following its target until the batteries run out. 5. - Doraemon(ドラえもん) is a Japanese manga series created by Fujiko F. Fujio (the pen name of Hiroshi Fujimoto) and Fujiko A. Fujio (the pen name of Motō Abiko) which later became an anime series and an Asian franchise. The series is about a robotic cat named Doraemon, who travels back in time from the 22nd century to aid a schoolboy, Nobita Nobi(野比 のび太Nobi Nobita). The series first appeared in December 1969, when it was published simultaneously in six different magazines. In total, 1,344 stories were created in the original series, which are published by Shogakukan under the Tentōmushi(てんとう虫) manga brand, extending to forty-five volumes. The volumes are collected in the Takaoka Central Library in Toyama, Japan, where both Fujiko Fujio were born. Viz Media bought the license to the Doraemon manga in the 1990s for an English-language release, but ultimately decided not to publish it due to the possible controversy surrounding its content.[citation needed] However, Doraemon: Nobita's Dinosaur 2006 (The 26th film in the franchise) got a private screening in Washington D.C. in November 2008. A majority of Doraemon episodes are comedies with moral lessons regarding values such as integrity, perseverance, courage, family and respect for elders. Several noteworthy environmental issues are often visited, including homeless animals, global warming, endangered species, deforestation, and pollution. Miscellaneous educational topics such as dinosaurs, the flat Earth theory, wormhole traveling, Gulliver's Travels, and the history of Japan are often covered. Doraemon was awarded the Japan Cartoonists Association Award for excellence in 1973. Doraemon was awarded the first Shogakukan Manga Award for children's manga in 1982, and the first Osamu Tezuka Culture Award in 1997. In March 2008, Japan's Foreign Ministry appointed Doraemon as the nation's first "anime ambassador." Ministry spokesman explained the novel decision as an attempt to help people in other countries to understand Japanese anime better and to deepen their interest in Japanese culture." The Foreign Ministry action confirms that Doraemon has come to be considered a Japanese cultural icon. In 2002, the anime character was acclaimed as an Asian Hero in a special feature survey conducted by Time Asia magazine.
