  • When the heavily-pregnant Maria Connor started having regular contractions in June 2009, she was taken to Weatherfield General by neighbour Sally Webster and accompanied by anxious brother Kirk Sutherland. Maria, being monitored in the examination room by the Midwife, was told that her blood pressure was normal and that the baby also seemed fine. Explaining that she could be in for a long wait, the midwife asked her if she'd bought a good book to read.

Realising that Maria needed to rest and have some privacy, Sally suggested that she and Kirk got themselves a drink and waited outside. The midwife came out of the room whilst Kirk was in the middle of reading through a pregnancy book and assuming that his sister had already delivered the baby, the midwife informed the pair that it looked as though it was a false alarm although Maria would be kept in hospital overnight - just to be on the safe side.
