  • The Bishop's Wife is a Samuel Goldwyn romantic comedy feature film starring Cary Grant, Loretta Young, and David Niven, adapted from the 1928 novel of the same name by Robert Nathan. Although not strictly a Christmas special (much like It's a Wonderful Life), it remains popular fare during the holidays because of its setting during Christmas. It was remade in 1996 as The Preacher's Wife with less of a holiday-centric theme.

The film stars David Niven as the titular Bishop, a man so invested in raising funds for a new cathedral, he's lost sight of his relationship with his increasingly neglected wife, played by Loretta Young. Into this enters the charming angel played by Cary Grant, whose offer of help, while definitely for the good, contains a lesson or two for the Bishop.
