Bob-ombs first come into play in the Mario Kart series in Mario Kart 64. They were not used as an Item, but are sprawled out across the track in multiplayer only. Also, in the Balloon Battle mode, if a player died in at leat 3-player, they were transformed into Bob-omb Cars that can ram into surviving players. After being absent from Mario Kart: Super Circuit, they come back in Mario Kart: Double Dash!! as Wario and Waluigi's special item. Petey Piranha and King Boo also can possess this item because they have the ability to get any special. Since then, a Bob-omb has been an Item in the succeeding games, open to every character.
- Bob-ombs are a reoccuring species that appear throughout the Super Mario series. Bob-ombs have mostly appear as enemies throughout the series, however sometimes friendly Bob-ombs are encountered. They are best known for their ability to explode. Bob-ombs are commonly depicted like a normal bomb, with the addition of feet, white eyes and a mechanical wind-up key in their back. Their are many different forms of Bob-ombs, some are blue, black, pink or red. Once they have been detonated, they will flash red and sometimes make beeping sounds are grow slightly in size before exploding. They are commonly portrayed as quite intelligent characters, and sometimes have their own towns and villages full of their species. The Bob-ombs are one of the key members of the Koopa Troop, very often appearing as a part of the army. One of Bowser's highest ranking minions, Big Bob-omb, is also part of the Bob-omb species. However, not all Bob-ombs are a part of the Koopa Troop, and their are often villages for friendly Bob-ombs and friendly characters. The Bob-ombs are also commonly depicted being at war with one another between the red/pink Bob-ombs and the black/blue bob-ombs. Bob-ombs have had many different incarnations where they serve many different purposes. They most commonly appear as enemies who will explode after being interacted with. They also have appeared as items in the Mario Kart series and the Super Smash Bros. series

* Lastly, there are Bob-ombs with no arms or wind-up keys. They are shot from cannons and walk around for a few seconds. They self-destruct themselves sooner than the SMB2 type. A stomp instantly kills them and they are only found in the level Airship Armada.
- Bob-ombs are enemies in the Mario series. While most recognize Super Mario Bros. 2 as the enemy's first game, it was actually a Japanese game titled Doki Doki Panic. The game was later remade with Mario characters and titled Super Mario Bros. 2. Like the Koopa Troopas, Bob-ombs can be used as projectiles and thrown at other enemies. Once stomped on you will be able to pick him up and you can use the Bob-omb as a Grenade. Throw him at either a blocking wall or another enemy. Once you do, they will blow up the wall or either kill the enemy. The Bob-ombs' main enemy other than the Mario Bros. are the Bob-omb Buddies, with whom they are having war in the events that took place in Super Mario 64. The king of the Bob-ombs is King Bob-omb, who is much bigger, and has a crown and mustache, and even hands. In the Mario Kart series, Bob-ombs are used to throw at other racers and will explode.
