Synopsis
  • Caption: "A mysterious hoodoo makes men unwilling to work on the great state fair -- for already six deaths have occurred there." Sergeant Kent sends a swarm of cops to cover the fair. Police Scientist Jim Barr learns, from Police Chief's secretary Susan Kent, that gang boss and killer Thomas "Ice" Craddock is in town. Jim packs his strange-appearing costume into a small satchel and quietly slips on over to the great state fair. There he spots Craddock, meeting with three creeps, and going into the wax museum; Jim stashes his satchel and follows them inside, and hides among the wax figures. Craddock whispers so low that even Bulletman can't hear him; fortunately he can read lips, and learns the plan. Then he's spotted, and there's a fight, and Jim gets stabbed in the hand with Craddock's trick weapon, injecting enough poison to kill a dozen men, which knocks him unconscious. The crooks set up Jim's seemingly-dead body in a guillotine display, and leave to get their plan set up for tomorrow, the fair's opening day. Bulletman remains in place, unconscious, waking up just in time to avoid decapitation when the fully-functional guillotine is demonstrated for the state fair patrons. His satchel is still just where he left it, and Jim changes clothes. He observes from a high vantage point as Seth Daly, wealthy real-estate magnate and philanthropist, begins a dull speech, and sees some thugs start up a nearby steam shovel, and drive it toward the crowd. Bulletman flies down and topples the giant machine. Gas bombs are then flung into the crowd from one of the rides; Bulletman gathers up some bombs and flies up to the platform, and gasses the thugs with their own stuff. Next a blimp is set afire and falls towards a crash on the crowded fairground; Bulletman intercepts it, knocking it into a nearby swamp, where it burns out harmlessly. He seemingly assumes that the blimp's crew is already dead. Then Bulletman finds Craddock and squeezes some info out of him, then he flies to a nearby oilfield, steals a drill out of an oil derrick, flies it back to the fairground, crash-drills into the ground, and reveals that a whole lot of oil is underneath the site of the great state fair. Daly knew about it, and created all the trouble so the city would sell him the land cheaply.
