  • Kelly's discussion with the Today Programme journalist Andrew Gilligan on his BBC radio show, about the British government's dossier on weapons of mass destruction (WMD) in Iraq inadvertently caused a major political scandal, and he was asked to appear as a witness before two committees of the House of Commons that were investigating the situation in Iraq. Since then, David has appeared in over 100 films and TV shows, most notably a guest role in Fawlty Towers and the role of Grandpa Joe in Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. David was married to actress Laurie Morton. Together they had 2 children. David died of pneumonia in 2012 aged 82.
