  • Metron's Mobius Chair is powered by the mysterious X-Element, enabling him to travel freely through time and space. The Chair doubles as a generator of Boom Tubes to transport himself and others. Metron has an immense knowledge of history and culture, encompassing nearly all of time as a result of his studies. He apparently has abilities similar to those of his peers born of The Fourth World, but they are as-yet undefined.

  • The Metrons were a highly-advanced, possibly noncorporeal species originating in the Beta Quadrant, not far from the Federation-Gorn border. Their government was known as the Metron Consortium. (TOS: "Arena", Star Trek: Star Charts)
  • Metron was born a New God but hasn't been born on New Genesis or Apokolips claiming to be from a far more ethereal dimension. With his vast scientific knowledge, Metron helped the New Gods invent the Boom Tube technology that allowed the gods to teleport through dimensions. He travels the universe by sitting on his Mobius Throne that can pass through space and time itself. Metron always appeared in times of great importance, though he never interfered unless the universe was threatened. Metron once heard a prophecy from the Source told by Highfather and learned that Orion was an adopted son from Apokolips and discovered Orion went there to face his birth father Darkseid. Orion first faced his half-brother Kalibak and Metron suddenly appeared and froze time so he could speak with Orion. Metron warned him of Darkseid's plan to use the Anti-Life Equation on the Earth and told Orion to go there. He teleported Orion and his Astro-Harness to Earth and then teleported away. Metron was the Keeper of the Anti-Life Equation that Darkseid desires but shares it with no one. When the Earth was attacked by an alien invasion, Metron helped contact both Earth and New Genesis heroes including Orion, Mister Miracle, and Lightray and Metron himself fought alongside the Justice League and helped defeat the Extant.
  • Metron is a Glatorian, surviving member of the Iron Tribe, and member of the Toa Merok.
  • The Metrons were first encountered by United Federation of Planets representatives in 2267. In that year, Captain James T. Kirk had ordered the USS Enterprise to pursue a Gorn vessel that had destroyed the observation outpost located on Cestus III. As the pursuit passed the uncharted star system at 2466 PM, the Enterprise was scanned from that system. Then the Gorn vessel inexplicably slowed and stopped. Thinking they planned to fight, Kirk prepared to engage – and then the Enterprise likewise slowed and stopped. Both ships were being held in place from the star system at 2466 PM, not by tractor beams, but rather by "an unidentifiable power". The Metrons, declaring both species savages, prepared a planet and removed the captain of each ship to it. There, they were to fight to the death, and the outcome of this contest would determine which ship survived, and which was destroyed. Eventually, Kirk won the fight, but elected to spare his helpless opponent. This demonstration of mercy surprised the Metrons, whose analysis of the situation did not lead them to expect it. A Metron appeared to Kirk, and suggested that, although the Federation was still half savage, there might be hope for it in a few thousand years. The Metrons then returned Kirk to the Enterprise and transported the ship 1,600 light years away from their space. The Metrons demonstrated the ability to manipulate forms of energy unknown to Federation science, to perform comprehensive scans at great range, to transport matter great distances instantly, and perhaps to rapidly terraform planets to specific requirements. All of these feats were well beyond what even 24th century Federation technology could accomplish. This suggests their science and technology was hundreds or thousands of years more advanced than that of the Federation. Metrons had long life spans; the representative that met Kirk was approximately 1,500 years old, despite appearing as little more than a boy. His comment to Kirk suggests an interest in the political and sociological geometry of the galaxy thousands of years hence. It is possible that this perspective was a consequence of this long life span. (TOS: "Arena" ) It is possible that the Metron Consortium mentioned in DS9: "Business as Usual" is connected with the Metrons, but this is not confirmed in canon. In Star Trek: Star Charts (p. 64) and Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library ("Federation Historical Highlights, 2161-2385"), the Metron Consortium was the name of the Metrons' interstellar nation. This nation was located in the Beta Quadrant. Star Trek Online has the Metrons contacting the USS Stargazer-A in the late 24th century in an attempt to initiate relations between the Metron Consortium and the Federation.

(DS9: )

They lured Captain Benjamin Sisko of the USS Defiant to their space with a false distress call so he could help preserve their knowledge for future generations. (DS9 - Strange New Worlds I short story: "Where I Fell Before My Enemy") Two years later, in 2375, then-Governor Nanietta Bacco of Cestus III negotiated a historic peace treaty between the Federation and the Metrons following an attack on the world by the Gorn Hegemony. Metron warned Luthor that a human being may not have the capacity to survive an encounter with the Equation, but Luthor managed to retain his sanity and present the equation to Darkseid.
