They also are seen arresting him at the end of chapter 5. These heavy armored soldiers uses big riot shields that has full metal armor and the shield can withstand all types of ballistic projectiles and small arms fire, but they are not meant to be used for flak protection therefor grenades and other types of explosives are recommended for ensuring distractions and drawbacks or lethal kills. They also carry heavy shotguns for close quarters combat.
  • In the Clone Wars, there was a type of clone trooper that had the same job as riot troopers. These were eventually replaced by Imperial riot troopers.
  • Imperial Riot Troopers are highly-trained soldiers that specialize in containing and defusing insurrectionist scenarios. As military enforcers of the Galactic Empire, Riot Troopers are typically stationed on potentially troublesome worlds throughout Imperial territory. They are trained for close-combat, and thus are armed with electrostaffs, made from lightsaber-resistant cortosis. As a consequence, they lack any type of ranged weapon.

They are trained for close-combat, and thus are armed with electrostaffs, made from lightsaber-resistant cortosis. As a consequence, they lack any type of ranged weapon. The Riot Troopers' special status is emphasized by the fact that they initially received training at an Imperial Academy on Yinchorr, the same planet where Emperor Palpatine's Royal Guardsmen were trained. The academy was later moved to Kalist VI after the Royal Guard program was disbanded following the death of Emperor Damascus. Every Riot Trooper is required to swear the Oath of Obedience upon graduation as a symbol of their unquestioning loyalty to the Empire and its rightful leader — an oath that can only be severed through death. In combat, they are often accompanied by a squad of Stormtroopers; the troopers provide aid from a distance with their range weapons while the Riot Troopers close in on the enemy with their electrostaffs.
