Doctor Rowland was known for being shrewd, cunning, and quick to get to the point. He wasn't afraid to speak his mind, or say what needs to be said, a trait that his daughter Rebecca Bright clearly inherited as well. Despite these qualities he still had a kind side, shown through his treatment of Taylor-B025. Rowland was born on Earth in the Summer of 2499, and he would grow up in poverty. He became a prodigy, and Rowland was admitted into Harvard University at the age of just 16. He graduated with his Doctorate in several degrees 2523 , and soon after, he was employed by the UNSC weapons development branch. He spent the final 2 years of the Insurrection, and the next 10 of the Human-Covenant War working there. In 2535, he joined the SPARTAN-III Program, helping locate candidates. In the following year he would have a child, Rebecca Bright. Then in 2537, he was selected to develop a covert ONI project to produce a super soldier special forces squad from candidates of the SPARTAN-III Beta Company. He participated in Beta Company's training for the first 5 years until 2544, and then selected his candidates and had them pulled from the company. Rowland relocated his headquarters to Reach, and He dubbed the project, Project Abel after his great grandfather, Abel Bright. Over the years, Rowland grew quite fond of one spartan in particularly, Taylor-B025, and eventually selected him as the lead spartan in the project. Taylor would prove to be beyond impressive going above and beyond the call of duty for the doctor, and the UNSC. However, on August 26th, 2552, during the Fall of Reach, Rowland was mortally wounded after buying his daughter and other survivors from the Phalanx Academy time to hide from the Covenant forces. He would die in a second too late Taylor's arms soon after.
