  • 'Washington-Irving Motorsports' is a former NASCAR team,it was the first african american owned team,owned by former washington redskins football player joe washington and NBA Great Julius Erving (aka Dr J) They competed in Busch Series from 1998-2000. they were sponsored by Dr Pepper,jelly belly's and Snyder Pretzels ,they race fords for their first season the switch to chevy's for their last 2 seasons, they were based out of linwood, nc in a building owned by barry owen, Jimmy Foster was the team's first driver, competing for the 1999 season but Mark Green,Jimmy Kitchens,Tony Roper and Mike Wallace all shared seat time in the car. The team folded following the 2000 season because of money troubles, owing money on motors and other equipment that was least from big names like jack roush.
